Billions o pounds will be channelled into the oshore
wind industry over the coming decade with ports at the
heart o operations.
Investors will be looking or maximum support and
benet and East Anglias ports are second to none
or their quality, availability, expertise and strategic
relevance to the latest oshore developments.
The cluster, which includes Harwich, EastPort UK,
Lowestot, Felixstowe and Ipswich, can oer acomplete range o acilities with available quay
space and ample opportunities or growth and
development.
And they can all draw on the experience o a regional
supply chain which has served the energy industry
or almost hal a century but has rapidly adapted to the
changing needs and demands o today and the uture.
The ports have already been actively involved in
development, construction and operations and
maintenance o oshore wind arms. Now they areready and equipped to support developers and Tier 1
and 2 companies, and lead us into a new generation o
wind energy.
As well as the expansive coastline, East Anglias ports
also benet rom the inrastructure and skills in marine
science and advanced engineering developed rom
more than 40 years experience in the North Sea oil and
gas industry.
More than 400 specialist companies are located in
the area, with skills ranging rom cabling and drilling,
hydrographic surveying and geosciences to electronics
and asset management. This skilled workorce will be
key to helping wind arm developers make the most o
the natural assets around the East Anglian coast.
The region is also well connected by road, rail, sea and
air to all areas o the UK and mainland Europe. London
and the South East are easily accessible via the A11,
while journey times to London Liverpool Street by rail
are just under two hours. The Midlands and the North
can also be reached via links rom the A14, one o the
countrys main East-West routes. Norwich International
Airport, which has a helipad and oers worldwideconnections via Schiphol in Amsterdam, is within easy
reach, as are London Stansted and Luton airports.
And Bond Air Services has installed a new hanger and
helipad at Lowestot.
Furthermore, the regions councils and development
agencies, its schools and colleges, universities
and research institutes, are on hand to provide
ready support.

fexible approach and see oshore wind as a naturalt or the uture. It is Englands principal support port
or oshore energy in the Southern North Sea and the
closest deep-water harbour to the East Anglia Array
wind arm project and the continent.
As the base or the Scroby Sands wind arm
development, the port has proven experience in saely
handling wind arm components, and remains the
operations and maintenance base or the site.
And since becoming operational in February 2010,
the newly constructed deep-water outer harbour hashosted vessels working on Greater Gabbard, Thanet
and Sheringham Shoal oshore wind arms.
There is trunk road access to London and theMidlands/North, a nearby railway terminus and Norwich
International Airport is 45 minutes drive.

A major investment opportunity has been recognised
at Harwich Bathside Bay. Building on its ormidable
experience in the oshore renewable sector, Harwich
International Port is bringing orward a major new portdevelopment at Bathside Bay.
Detailed planning applications are being sought to
amend existing consents or the development, with
habitat mitigation measures and harbour orders already
agreed. No other UK port has consent to expand on
this scale and the ability to be operational by 2014/15.
The redevelopment o Bathside Bay oers a multi-
unctional manuacturing and assembly site which could
be capable o supporting multiple large-scale acilities,
as well as providing a prime installation base. It is ideallylocated to serve the UKs Round 3 projects, as well as
uture developments o the German, Dutch
and Belgian coasts and the port is already heavily
engaged on the development o Round 1 & 2 wind arms.
The development will increase the ports depth or
access to 15m below LAT (lowest astronomical tide)
and provide 1,400m o extra quay or heavy loadings. It
has no air drat restrictions and is one o the UKs best
naturally protected harbours. The port boasts regular
erry services to the continent, rail connection rom
the port to London and east and west coast mainlines.Stansted Airport is less than an hour by road.
