Earth-Sun Relationships
Energy that drives weather comes from the sun, but solar energy is unevenly distributed.
Unequal heating from the Sun drives wind and ocean currents, creating climate & weather phenomena.
the 2 principal motions of Earth:
Rotation is the spinning of the Earth on its axis, once every 24 hours.
Revolution is the movement of the Earth in its orbit around the sun, once every 365 days.
Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees from its perpendicular orbit around the sun.
The angle of the noon sun is lower in winter, higher in summer.
Length of daylight compared to darkness is also determined by Earth’s position in orbit.
