    Background

    Green Relief and Rehabilitation Fund (GRRF) was established on 29th  of April, 2015 in

    Kathmandu, Nepal with the objective to address the immediate needs of local communities

    in highly affected districts by the devastating earthquake of 25 April 2015 and its high

    magnitude aftershocks. The organizations, which are working in the field of communityforestry, sustainable forest management and securing rights of local community in natural

    resource management, are involved in GRRF consortium. Thirteen organizations are

    engaged in this consortium. These are:

    Regular meetings were carries out in every month and urgent meetings as per required.

    Since its establishment, as per the decision of meetings, team of GRRF was engaged in

    rescue, relief material distribution and temporary shelter built to those families who are

    severely affected by earthquake in eight districts (i.e. Gorkha, Kavre, Shindhu, Makawanpur,

    Dolakha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur) of Nepal. About 4000 households were

    received Tarpaulin (tents), Metrecs, Blanket and Mosquito net, etc. through GRRF.

    Moreover, 13 temporary shelters were built and handed over to earthquake victim families.

    On the other hand, the consortium team was also involved for fund raising. All the engaged

    organizations itself deposited certain amount in this GRRF and Programme for the

    Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) helped us to create online funding system so

    that GRRF was able to generate fund to support earthquake victim communities. This fund is

    mobilized through FECOFUN, GFN and other partner organization directly.

    Major activi ties

    Following major activities were done through GRRF:

    4. Regular meeting for learning sharing and planning for further activities and strategy

    rehabilitation support

    Output and Achievements

     Achievements and output based on the activities are:

    1. Relief materials distribution: 

     All together more than 3500 pieces

    Tarpaulin (tents) including Metrecs,

    Blanket and Mosquito net were

    distributed in a complete set were

    distributed to severely affected 4000

    families of eight districts. The distributed

    districts were Gorkha, Dolakha, Kavre,

    Shindhu, Makawanpur, Kathmandu,

    Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.

    2. Temporary shelter built and hand over to

    severely affected family: 

    Total thirteen temporary shelters were builtand handover to most affected families in

    Lapsephedi VDC, ward no. 6 of Kathmandu

    districts. This is the immediate support to have

    temporary shelter and the local community

    selected participants and the participants were

    the most needy one household in the local

    community.

    3. Fund raising and expenditure for relief and rehabilitation:  

    Total Rs 5,630,461.6 were collected from GRRF consortium organizations including

    the online donation through you caring with the help of PEFC International and

    personal donation through bank deposit. Table 1 below showed the detail information

    of income and table 2 is the expenditure.

    4. Regular meeting for learning sharing and planning for further activities and strategy

    rehabilitation support:

    Numbers of meetings were conducted for review and

    reflection of the work. The meeting also discussed

    on what next agenda should be adopted for

    rehabilitation program from the remaining money of

    the fund. Need to continuous support to victim

    communities, and rebuilding of school and health

    post were discussed to utilize the remaining fund in

    future. Moreover, dialogues in local and policy level to support the victim people through

    forest sustainability and policy addresses are also the long-term strategy of GRRF

    consortium.

    5. Future Program:

    The consortium discussed to help the earthquake resilient houses for the earthquake victim

    peoples and support to school children and school building reconstruction in earthquake-

    affected areas
