Portugal led the way in geographical exploration along the coast of Africa in search for a route to India.

Spain followed which caused the dividing of exploration of the world according to the Treaty of Tordesillas

Oceanic explorations were followed by France, England and the Netherlands, who explored the Portuguese and Spanish trade routes into the Pacific Ocean
