Open Day 25 May

In spite of poor weather, over 500 people

turned up to take a leisurely wander around

the community at a recent Open Day. Some

however, did not want to brave the rain so

Halcyon is conducting another Open Day on

Saturday 25 May from 10:00am – 1:00pm for

those who missed out, or anyone who simply

wants another look at the Sunshine Coast’s

best over 50’s lifestyle community!

Take a sneak preview of the 5-Star Recreation

Club as it nears completion and the finishing

touches are made on what will soon be

the heart of Halcyon Landing. What was

once a dream is fast becoming reality with

bookshelves in the library, the projector set

up and ready to roll in the cinema and the

tennis court grassed… No longer is your

imagination required. You’ll also be amongst

the first to preview the exquisite first release of

Stage 2, ‘The Entrance’. So come along, meet

some of the home owners already living

the dream and expect a taste of Halcyon’s

Following an unprecedented sales run that has

seen 82 of the first 84 home sites released in

Stage 1 sold in record time and almost 100

people now living in the community, Halcyon

has had to fast forward plans for the second

stage of Halcyon Landing.

THE ENTRANCE

Stage 2now selling

Boasting some of the largest home sites ever,

the first release of ‘The Entrance’ includes

the Grand Series of homes, eight single level

homes each with special treatments to give

the feeling of extra space. Also part of the new

release are seven new Boat Houses, dubbed

‘The Wow Factor’ homes. Each contemporary

high-set Boat House features a huge three-car

garage, not available anywhere else… even

at any other Halcyon community. So there’s

plenty of room for toys or a hobby space.

Located close to the Recreation Precinct and

with average land sizes 20% larger than those

in Stage 1, the design team has responded

with some of the grandest home designs

Halcyon has ever delivered. More space has

been created both inside and outside every

home, making the most of views towards

the north east. Construction is due to begin

in July on the homes that include upgraded

and expanded landscaping as part of the total

package.

The Entrance will also showcase a new floor

plan featuring a choice of two stunning façade

options. Displaying a spectacular butler’s

pantry and media room, the Grand Hayman

and Grand Osprey are sure to create quite

a stir.

Early interest in The Entrance has been very

strong so come and check out the plans

before they are released to the wider public.

For more information, come to the Open

Day on Saturday 25 May, or phone the

Sales Team on 1800 050 050.

the river, and the hinterland all within easy reach. Looking to head out shopping, dining or

simply out and about? Drive north along the coast road or take the Sunshine Motorway to

Noosa. To the south, Sunshine Plaza is just ten minutes away within easy reach across the

Maroochy River Bridge. Closer to home, the new redeveloped River Markets Shopping Centre

has got you covered for all of your daily needs. Bli Bli‘s central location also serves as the perfect

launch pad for jaunts west to discover the delights hidden deep within the hinterland.

Sunshine Plaza is the largest shopping

centre on the Sunshine Coast with over 220

Martins see the value of the downsizeMany Halcyon home owners spent countless

hours of research online and on foot inspecting

all options before choosing to live in a Halcyon

community. Not John and Dianne Martin who

discovered Halcyon quite by coincidence.

At the time, the couple were both loving

life in their Chapel Hill home of 11 years

in Brisbane’s Western Suburbs. Although

John was semi-retired, they had talked about

downsizing before however over 50’s lifestyle

communities weren’t something they had ever

discussed or even considered.

An invitation to visit their daughter’s in-laws

at Halcyon Waters at Hope Island started a

chain of events that would prove life changing

for the sociable couple.

“When we got there we didn’t really know

what to expect, we hadn’t come across

anything like the Halcyon concept before,”

said John. One look through the award

winning community and it didn’t take long for

the Martins to be impressed. “We liked the

quality of the houses, the clubhouse and all

the facilities and thought that could work for

us,” he said.

The ball really started rolling when they

discovered Halcyon was building a new

community at Bli Bli. They liked the Sunshine

Coast and had always enjoyed holidaying

there in the past. By now John was leading

the charge, Dianne however was a little more

reluctant, but they made the trip up to check

out the location of the site that was little more

than dirt at the time.

John, a veteran 40-year Property Valuer who

ran his own practice, immediately realised the

potential. Things like proximity and ease of

access to the beach, the Sunshine Motorway,

the new golf course, the upgrading of the

River Markets Shopping Centre and residential

developments like Cutters Ridge made it

more attractive. “I think that Bli Bli has been a

bit of an ‘affordable sleeper’, that will maintain

it’s charm going forward,” said John.

Reset the calendar to May 2013 and the

Martins have been living at Halcyon Landing

for nine weeks and to put it mildly, they love

their new lifestyle. “We are both delighted

with the decision to make the move, it

has exceeded our expectations,” said John.

“It’s hard to imagine this style of living until

you have actually experienced it and we love

it,” he added.

Dianne says she has no regrets. “Once we

moved in we got to know people here

straight away which was fantastic.” Nowadays

with less household chores to worry about

there’s more time for themselves and the

Martins social calendar is always full. “There’s

walking group three days a week, an arts

group gathering on Tuesday’s, social group

think tanks and once a month the ladies

commandeer the community bus and head

out to lunch,” she laughed.

When the new Recreation Club is completed

in just a matter of months, both Dianne and

John look forward to using the gym, trying out

bowls for the first time, yoga and anything else

that sparks their interest. Dianne, who’s great-

great-grandparents settled in Bli Bli many years

ago, also intends to do some research tracing

her ancestry.

John, who is a former president and 39-year

member of the Brisbane Golf Club, is already

a member of the future Maroochy River Golf

Club and keenly awaits teeing off for his first

round of 18-holes.

Until then John plays at the current Horton

Park Golf Club and still maintains a country

membership at his former club in Brisbane.

No doubt John, who plays off a six handicap

will prove useful when Halcyon Landing takes

on one of its sister communities in friendly golf

games in the future.

Knowing that like most grandparents, she

would do anything for her grandchildren,

Paul volunteered Sue to assist the Juvenile

Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in their

recent fundraising endeavour.

It was quite simple. All Sue had to do was raise

$1,000 and then jump out of an aeroplane

at 14,000ft! The Murdoch’s daughter-in-law

and her 17 year-old daughter also agreed

to participate resulting in three generations

of girls in the one family all simultaneously

‘Jumping For A Cure.’ The Murdoch’s son Tim

would also loved to have participated but he

is on active deployment with the Australian

Defence Force in Afghanistan.

The Murdoch family girls raised over $4,000

for Juvenile Diabetes Research that went

toward the total of $83,700 raised by 55

intrepid Queensland Participants.

It’s official! What was once labelled to be

the new Horton Park Golf Club, is now to

be known as the Maroochy River Golf Club.

Club Manager Mr Charlie McGill said that the

existing Horton Park membership was asking

for naming suggestions, which then narrowed

down to two clear choices. A final vote

ultimately determined the winning name that

pays homage to the role that the river played

in the history of the region.

Mr McGill went on to say that the $40 million

development was on track for completion

around July 2014, despite some delays due

to recent weather conditions. “We are also

on track for the clubhouse with architects’

Martins see the value of the downsizeRecent news of a Graham Marsh designed golf course being built nearby was given the big thumbs up by many home owners who plan to join the new club. We caught up with Club Manager, Charlie McGill for latest news.

Get into the swing

Sue jumps for charity

submissions due in matter of weeks and

finalised plans for release to follow shortly

after that,” said Mr McGill.

As for the status on the number of holes at

the new club, Charlie told us that the aim was

to get the very best possible 18-hole course

for members to play on before embarking on

the final nine holes that will ultimately make up

the 27-hole course.

News of the development is just another

boost for Bli Bli and its surrounding areas

and particularly for future Halcyon Landing

home owners, who will soon be living literally

minutes from the Sunshine Coast’s newest

golf course.

Just like Halcyon’s new TV commercial,

Halcyon Parks homeowner Sue Murdoch

had a real-life first time experience, skydiving

from 14,000 feet above the Sunshine Coast

freefalling 9000 feet in 65 seconds at 240kph,

before landing gracefully on Coolum Beach.

The heart-warming story of how someone

who normally won’t go on rides at amusement

parks ever came to take such a giant leap

involves three generations of the one family,

love and a worthy, charitable cause.

At 18 months of age, Sue’s 4 year-old

granddaughter Summer was diagnosed with

Type 1 Diabetes. The Murdoch family, and

in particular her parents, have coped with

the disease, but as with many other medical

conditions the hope is that one day a cure

will be found. This is where Sue’s husband

and family patriarch Paul joins the story.

As for Paul, well in his own words…

“Somebody had to look after Summer, take

photos and move the mattresses around at

the landing site.”

The Murdoch’s would like to thank those in

the Halcyon community for their generous

donations and would like to point out that

what Sue did is proof that Life really does

begin at Halcyon.

Pedal power

Halcyon shaves for a cure Just like its sister communities at Caloundra

and Hope Island, the most popular form of

transport at Halcyon Landing is the humble yet

practical bicycle. Whether it’s for fun, fitness,

reliving youthful memories or simply picking up

the mail, there’s always someone cycling past,

giving you a wave as they go about their daily

business.

Take a stroll around the Halcyon Landing

community and you can’t help but notice

that some of the home owners are sporting

some rather short hairstyles at the moment.

Inspired by bubbly Community Manager

Donna Osborne, 22 brave home owners took

part in ‘The World’s Greatest Shave’ recently,

raising $14,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

...and after the big shave!

Community Manager Donna Osborne before...

No stone was left unturned as home owners

rallied friends and family from around Australia

and even overseas to sponsor them. For

Donna and many others involved, this was

both a first time experience and a personal

challenge that had proved extremely gratifying.

“I first got the idea after seeing a TV commercial

and thought what a challenging thing to do

and what a great challenge for our growing

community,” said Donna. “Part of my role

here is to bring people together for a

common cause and build community spirit, so

I was delighted when so many of the home

owners joined in.”

As a reward, Halcyon presented each of

the participants with a special ‘Life begins

at Halcyon’ cruiser bike for their gallant

fund raising efforts. Donna meanwhile is

awaiting her special trike which has all the

boot space required for an always-on-the-go
