28th Annual Hankin Invitational Benefitting Handi-Crafters

The 28th Annual Hankin Invitational sponsored by Hankin Group and Bentley Systems will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Whitford Country Clubhouse in Exton, PA. The Hankin Invi-tational is benefitting Handi-Crafters.

By Debbie & Kevin Pierce, owners & operators

“Ice… Custard… Happiness!” This is the corpo-rate motto of Rita’s Italian Ice and our steadfast commitment to Eagleview. We are so excited to be opening our newest location at 543 Welling-ton Square between Nudy’s and Gemini.

We will be open seven days a week from March through at least the end of October. While most Rita’s locations close in September, we intend to remain open as long as the weather and business demand permits… maybe even until November. Don’t worry, to keep you in the fall mood, we will offer flavors such as pumpkin ice, pumpkin cheesecake, gingerbread ice, oatmeal raisin cream ice and dulce de leche. Sound good?

Our new location is “YOUR Rita’s”! Not the tra-ditional “walk-up” store but rather a warm and cozy “walk-in/sit-down” store with comfortable tables and chairs so you can sit and enjoy your Rita’s signature treats inside or outside.

In fact, why not host your next party or fund raiser at “Your Rita’s”! We encourage sports teams, churches, non-profit and charitable orga-nizations to hold fundraisers with us. Why not try one of these fun ideas:

• The Celebrity Scoop / Ice and Custard Social is a fun and exciting way for your groups to raise money! As a feature of this event, members of your organization can be “Celebrity Scoopers” at Rita’s. In return, your group will receive 20% of the proceeds earned!

• The Quart Lid Sale Fundraiser has also been very successful in the past! Your group members sell quarts of our signature Italian Ice to friends and family and earn 50% of the proceeds!

• Mobile Fundraising: Our Rita’s Mobile Unit allows us to participate at sporting events such as Little League Games, corporate events, community events as well as your fundraising event. We would provide Rita’s signature frozen treats at your location and donate 20% of the sales to your organiza-tion.

Handi-Crafters runs one of the largest non-profit employment and disability focused support service programs in Southeast Pennsylvania. Each year they help over 400 individuals to access rewarding employment opportunities in the community and in our Skill Develop-ment Center.

Handi-Crafters achieves their goals through partnerships with great employ-ers and the acquisition of work contracts with businesses who choose socially responsible outsourcing to meet their pro-duction, assembly and packaging needs.

School Readiness Takes Center Stage at Eagleview

Did you know that 90% of your child’s brain de-velopment happens before age 3? The time spent in selecting a quality early learning program for your child is an important investment in your child’s future and the happiness of your family.

Hildebrandt Learning Centers, with two locations at Eagleview, are preparing children from a very young age for success in school. How? By employing outstanding teachers with education and human services degrees and years of valu-able experience.

For instance, at HLC at Eagleview Town Center, our Director, Amber Schnitzius, has been in the early childhood field since 2007 and holds a degree in Professional Studies with minors in Education, Psychology and Sociology; enabling her to understand the whole child and the whole family. The five lead teachers have 65 years of combined experience in the early childhood field with degrees in Special Education, Psychology, Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education and Early Childhood.

And at HLC at Our Kids’ Academy at Eagleview, a STAR 4, Nationally Accredited Center our

Director, Stephanie Palmer, has been in the early childhood field for over 25 years and holds a degree in Psychology and Elementary Education enabling her to understand the whole child and the whole family. The 14 lead teachers have over 125 years of combined experience in the early childhood field, and hold degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Human Development and Families Studies.

How does HLC prepare children for Kindergar-ten? Through researched-based, developmentally appropriate practices. Utilizing an integrated curriculum in the preschool classroom, teach-ers focus on all areas of learning. Children are immersed in block play, art, dramatic play, reading, and musical instruments both indoors and outdoors. Beyond ABC’s and 123’s, school readiness is defined as problem solving, creativity, imagination, expressing needs in a pro-social way, having empathy, persistence and motivation. It involves intellectual, social, language, large and small motor development. Our teachers pay attention to children’s interests and develop projects through which the children

1. Save money on your electric bill. The initial cost of LED bulbs may be misleading to consumers unfamiliar with the new LED bulbs. While the initial cost of the LED bulb is higher than the cost of an incandescent or CFL bulb, the savings is recouped over time (usually in one to three years) because the bulb will last 25-50 times longer and use much less energy than other bulbs. You WILL see the savings in your electric bill.

2. LED bulbs contain no mercury. One of the hurdles of energy-efficient CFL bulbs is the presence of a small amount of mercury in the bulbs. If a CFL bulb is broken, consum-ers are advised to treat the broken bulb as a hazardous material. LED bulbs contain no mercury, so there is no special concern with the handling or disposal of LED bulbs.

3. LEDs give instant light, and many are dim-mable. When turning on CFLs and tubular fluorescent light bulbs, there is a slight hesita-tion before brightness is achieved, and some bulbs may flicker during warm up or even dur-ing operation. Unlike fluorescents, LED bulbs, like incandescent bulbs, reach full illumination as soon as they are turned on. This is a real advantage over CFL bulbs in areas of the home where lights are frequently turned on and off. Also, LED lights produce steady light which does not flicker.

Earlier versions of LED bulbs had the disad-vantage of not being dimmable. Today, many LED bulbs are designed to work in dimmable switches which are provided in many lamps and home lighting fixtures. Just be sure to check the package to ensure the bulb you have selected is dimmable.

LED lights last a long time (up to 50,000 hours) and unlike other light bulbs, they do not burn out, but rather dim over time.

4. LEDs will not contribute to heat buildup in your home. Homeowners are increasingly interested in measures which can help reduce the amount of heat generated within the home (especially during the summer). Electric light-ing is one of the main culprits. Incandescent lights produce ideal illumination in terms of brightness and quality of light, but they also produce a considerable amount of heat.

LED bulbs, by contrast, remain cool. High power LEDs are designed with heat sinks, usu-ally aluminium struts around the lower bulb, which keep operating temperatures low.

5. Insects are not attracted to UV-Free LED bulbs. Most LED bulbs (but not all) do not give off ultraviolet light, which is known to attract flying insects. Check the package label for UV information if you are interested in this feature.

How do you know which LEDs are the best for your needs? Not all LED’s are created equal. Main Line Lighting & Design carries only the best quality LEDs in the industry. All of the products we carry have gone through rigorous testing and come with a five year guarantee.

Lighting Tip: Now is the time to switch to LED bulbs! Call for a FREE in-home LED lighting consultation. We can teach you about the newest & best in LED lighting and show you how you can save significant money on your energy bills. Help Eagleview GO GREEN!

Clark & Goshow: The Value of Relationships

Money can be a topic people are reluctant to discuss, but having an open, transparent dialogue about your finances should be the goal when it comes to your relationship with your Financial Advi-sor. An integral part of the client-advisor relationship is dependent on your advisor knowing the ins and outs of your overall financial situation, as well as your goals for the future. Arming your advisor with this information helps ensure that he or she can provide you with the most ap-propriate resources and strategies.

Share your goals “These conversations are about the things clients hold most dear, and it’s not always an easy discussion for clients to have,” says Jack Clark, Registered Principal of Clark & Goshow Financial Strategies Group. A high level of open-ness also helps the advisor craft a plan that addresses the client’s hopes for the future.

Map out your future Our Envision® planning process helps create an open dialogue between us and our clients. “The Envision process can give clients a huge advantage, because it is designed to help clients live the one life they have, the best way they can.” Clark says.

The process starts with giving the Finan-cial Advisor an understanding of who you are, what you want to achieve, and what your concerns are about achieving those things. The discussion is based on your dreams and what you want your future to look like. It’s about understand-ing your goals.

We can help with all factors that may impact retirement planning. For example, more and more clients are dealing with the reality of caring for an aging parent

or an adult child. Clients may also be caught off guard by inflation. With life spans increasing, inflation can play a huge role in a client’s ability to maintain their purchasing power over 30 years or more of post-retirement life.

Finally, clients should remember that hav-ing an open conversation with their advi-sor in the beginning of the relationship doesn’t mean they are finished. When changes happen, clients need to know that they can and should go back to their advisor and talk about those changes and how they impact their plan.
