You may have noticed the newsletter going out a week early this month. That's because our annual Young Eagles event is on Saturday, June 12 at the Glencoe airport. This is another great opportunity to share the joys of general aviation with the local community. Check out the last page for details from event coordinator Stuart Selchow. Helpers are always needed whether flying or providing ground support. Wear your green UL92 shirt and hat if you have one! It's proven to be a fun time for everyone involved... and the kids seem to enjoy it too!

The monthly meeting will still be on June 19 at the Glencoe airport. Double the airplane fun this month!

EAA UL92 MAY 2010 MEETING NOTES-Gene Pearson

Young Eagles Director Stuart Selchow says the certificate of insurance was received for the Young Eagles Day event on June 12, 2010. EAA members providing Young Eagles flights must have a current medical and bi-annual inspection.

Set-up for the event will begin at 7:00 a.m. Flights will take place from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. A new supply of registration forms and Young Eagles certificates have been ordered. This year there will also be 100 log books available from Sporty’s, to give to children participating.

Tickets for the Corn and Brat Fly-In should be available for sale at Glencoe Airport during Young Eagles Day. Mike Gavin says each UL92 member will be given 10 tickets to sell prior to the August event.

Samples of embroidered hats created for the UL92 chapter were displayed during the May meeting. Initial orders for the caps could be routed to Treasurer Jim Benson and can be ordered directly from the embroidery shop.

Treasurer Jim Benson said there was $1486.98 in the UL92 account at the time of the May meeting.

PROJECT REPORTSMore than 40 hours of flight on his BD-5 was reported by Larry Sharratt.

Wings and the fuselage are current components of the 701 under construction by Dan Barry.

The foot pedals and other internal fuselage parts are installed on the Sonex under construction by Jim Benson.

FLIGHT REPORTSThe New Orleans Jazz Festival was the destination for Mike Gavin and three other people in his Cessna 414. The flight cost less than airline rates, noted Gavin. There was a contrast in the price of fuel. A stop in Rolla, Missouri brought full service for $4.40 per gallon. The price of a gallon of aviation fuel at New Orleans was $5.79.

A chain on the propeller is a legal requirement for aircraft parked in Massachusetts. Carl Iliff says he also had to wait until 7:00 am to take off from Laurence G. Hanscom airport in Bedford, Massachusetts or face the possibility of receiving a ticket in the mail.

Young Eagles Day 2010!-Stuart Selchow

On June 12th, Young Eagles Day setup will begin around 7-7:30 am with the actual time of the flights taking place from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. I hope to see all members there. We always need extra helpers. I will bring along Chapter T-Shirts, so if anyone wants to buy one or needs an extra one, the cost is $5. Jim Benson is checking on the caps that were ordered at the last meeting to see if they will be here for the 12th.

Mike Gavin will be bringing along the Advance tickets for the Sweet Corn & Brat Fly-in, that will be on sale that day. Young Eagle Pilot Reminder - Must be current National EAA member, current Medical Certificate, current Flight Review, and must be current in the aircraft they use along with having liability insurance.
