Rector?s ColumnLETTING JESUS LOVE USEaster declares that goodness triumphs over the death of sin. Jesus? resurrection says life wins, death does not! In the midst of the pain and death caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Easter invites us to let the life-giving love of Jesus pour into our lives. This is a time to let Jesus love us the way he wants to. A time to let Jesus give us hope when it is so hard to feel hopeful. A time to let him reassure us as we experience the loss of l ife, health, the presence of family and friends, f inancial

resources and receiving the sacraments. This is the time to let our resurrected Lord reach into our lives with words of comfort as he says, ?It?s alright, I am with you.?

This Easter, as we let Jesus love us the way he wants to, how about letting the people in our lives love us the way they want to. Moms and dads, let your children love you the way they want to. Know they are grateful for all you have given them, even though they may not always know how to say thank you. You may think they do not know when you are hurting or sad. Most of the time, they do know. They want you to feel better. They try to make that happen with a special hug, the room they clean on their own or the special drawing they make just for you. Let your children comfort you. Let them make you laugh. Let them be your pride and joy.

Children, let your mom and dad love you the way they want to. Let them show you how precious you are to them. Let them help you to be safe. Pay attention to their efforts to help you grow into responsible adults. Let them shower you with love, protect you by their rules and guide you with their words of wisdom.

Wives, let your husbands adore you. Husbands, let your wives cherish you. Friends, let your friend accept the real you, with your strengths and weaknesses. Let your friend be, as the Scripture says, a sturdy shelter for you. And be that shelter for your friend.

Even though we cannot be with so many of you, let us priests love you the way we want to. Let the Masses we offer for you bring you strength. Let our prayers give you peace. Let our care that we carry within us every day of our l ives help you through every day of yours. We, too, will let you love us with your support, understanding and prayers.

Easter has come just in time this year. When, more than now, have we needed to love and to let ourselves be loved? This Easter we say thank you to those who love us and to those who let us love them.Thank you, Jesus, for showing us how. Alleluia!

La Pascua declara que la bondad triunfa sobre la muerte del pecado. La resurrección de Jesús dice que la vida gana, ¡la muerte no triunfa! En medio del dolor y la muerte causados por la pandemia del coronavirus, la Pascua nos invita a dejar que el amor vivo de Jesús se derrame en nuestras vidas. Este es un momento para dejar que Jesús nos ame como él quiere. Un tiempo para dejar que Jesús nos dé esperanza cuando es tan dif ícil sentirse esperanzados. Un tiempo para que él nos tranquilice a medida que experimentamos la pérdida de vidas, la salud, la presencia de familiares y amigos, los recursos f inancieros y la recepción de los sacramentos. Este es el

momento de dejar que nuestro Señor resucitado llegue a nuestra vida con palabras de consuelo mientras dice: "Está bien, estoy aquí contigo".

Esta Pascua, al dejar que Jesús nos ame como él quiere, ¿qué tal si dejamos que las personas en nuestra vida nos amen como ellos quieren? Mamás y papás, dejen a sus hijos a que los amen como ellos quieren. Sepan que están agradecidos por todo lo que les has dado, aunque no siempre sepan cómo dar las gracias. Ustedes pueden pensar que no saben cuándo ustedes están sufriendo o triste. La mayoría de las veces, lo saben. Quieren que se sientan mejor. Tratan de lograr eso con un abrazo especial, l impian su habitación sin que se los pidan o hacen un dibujo especial sólo para ustedes. Dejen que sus hijos los consuelen. Dejen que los hagan reír. Que sean su orgullo y alegría.

Niños, dejen que su mamá y a su papá los amen como ellos quieren. Dejan que les muestren lo valiosos que son para ellos. Dejan que les ayuden a estar tranquilos. Pongan atención a sus esfuerzos para ayudarte a convertirte en adultos responsables. Deja que te llenen de amor, que te protejan a través de sus reglas y que te guíen con sus palabras de sabiduría.

Esposas, deja que tus maridos te adoren. Esposos, dejen que sus esposas los cuiden. Amigos, deja que tu amigo te acepte con tus fortalezas y debilidades. Deja que tu amigo sea, como dice la Escritura, un refugio robusto para ti. Y sé ese refugio para tu amigo.

Aunque no podamos estar con tantos de ustedes, que los sacerdotes los amen como queremos. Deja que las Misas que te ofrecemos te traigan fuerza. Deja que nuestras oraciones te den paz. Dejen que nuestro cuidado que llevamos dentro de nosotros todos los días de nuestra vida les ayude a través de cada día de la suya. Nosotros también los dejaremos amarnos con su apoyo, comprensión y oraciones.

La Pascua ha llegado justo a tiempo este año. ¿Cuándo, más que ahora, hemos tenido que amar y dejarnos amar? Esta Pascua les damos las gracias a los que nos aman y a los que nos dejan amarlos. Gracias, Jesús, por mostrarnos cómo. ¡Aleluya!

Spir it ual Communion St. Thomas Aquinas described spiritual communion as ?an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the most holy sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when we cannot receive him in sacramental Communion.?

The basic elements of an act of spiri tual Communion1. Express to the Lord your faith in his merciful love and his real presence in the Eucharist.2. Make an act of love. O, Lord God, I love you above all things?3. Express your desire to receive him.4. Invite Jesus to come into your heart spiritually.

The following is a traditional prayer of spiritual communion attributed to St. Alphonsus Liguori:My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire you with all my heart. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I ask you to come spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already in my heart and unite myself to you completely. Please do not let me ever be separated from you. Amen.
