For our bodies to work properly we need to convert glucose (sugar) from food into energy. A hormone called insulin is essential for the

conversion of glucose into energy. In people with diabetes, insulin is no longer produced or not produced in sufficient amounts by the body. Once injured you should follow a few simple rules for the first few weeks after the injury:

• REST not to aggravate the injury further• MEDICATION may include anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drugs, muscle relaxants and pain-killers depending on the nature of injury.

The process of oxidation in the human body damages cell membranes and other structures including cellular proteins, lipids and DNA. To help understand what oxidation is and why anti-oxidants are necessary, think of it like a freshly cut apple which turns brown. This is a process called oxidation, which is defined as the interaction between oxygen molecules and all the different substances they may contact. The body can cope with some free radicals and needs them to function effectively, however, an overload of free radicals has been linked to certain diseases, including heart disease, liver disease and some cancers. Oxidation can be accelerated by stress, cigarette smoking, alcohol, sunlight, pollution and other factors which can be balanced by taking anti-oxidants to revitalize the body with a mixture of vitamins and minerals.

Many of us have recurring bouts of back pain. Usually it is experienced in the lower part of spine as sharp pain, ache or a spasm.
