December 1, 2013 – Kari Hunt died because of a single digit
Kari met her estranged husband in a Marshall, Texas hotel for visitation with their 3 children
Her ex-husband brutally attacked and stabbed her 31 times
Her 9 year old tried to call 911 4 times
Kari Hunt died from the 31st stab wound
Had her daughter reached 911, she may be alive
Why did the calls fail?
You needed to dial 9-911 from the hotel room
But that’s not what we teach our children

Public Safety fixes are NOT just a box . . .
“Set it and Forget it” might work for Ron Popeil, but it is not applicable to Safe Building solutions.
Each partner offers a solution to provide safety, and methodologies widely differ. Making the final technology selection, is a very specific decision for each environment, based on specific needs.
The challenge most customers have is that they cannot articulate what they actually need.

Addressing Five Areas of Response
Lockout LockdownReverse
EvacuationEmergency
School building(s) are unsafe,
staff and students leave the
building(s) and assemble at
predetermined points
Examples:
Earthquakes, gas leak, bomb
threat, flood or fire
External threat exists in the
vicinity of the school, while
students are outside of the
school building
Examples:
Return to the school building
after an evacuation or as an
initial procedure proceeding a
Lockout
Normal school operations
continue while monitoring an
event outside of the school
Examples:
Suspect loose in the
community, weather related
emergency
An immediate threat inside
or directly outside the school
facility
Examples:
Armed intruder or non-
custodial parent inside the
building
Normal school operations
continue while an isolated
emergency is addressed within
the school premises
Examples:
Student medical emergency that
requires first responders
