2018 Fine Arts Fiesta Times Leader2 Tuesday, May 15, 2018

This year’s theme is “Fiesta = Arts2”. Every year, the Fine Arts Fiesta brings smiles to the faces of the hundreds of adults and children who come to Public Square in Wilkes-Barre for Fiesta during the third weekend in May.

For four full days, Public Square comes alive with art, dance, music, theater, children’s programs, and more as our community comes to-gether for the oldest full-scale arts festival in Pennsylvania – a free gift of the arts to the community.

Each year, artists and crafters present their creations in the Juried Adult and Student Art Shows and in the Juried Artist Market. On the Bandshell, there are continuous performances - full of variety and excitement for four full days. Again this year, the children’s program-ming area offers a wide range of activities and experiences for children and their families. Strolling performers add to the fun and charm on the Square. Don’t forget to sample the wonderful variety of food on the Square.

Annette Evans and Al Groh’s inspiration and vision fostered the beginning of an arts festival in downtown Wilkes-Barre. Now, 63 years later, the Fine Arts Fiesta includes artists and performers from all over Northeast Pennsylvania and beyond who fill the Square with beauty, sound, rich aromas, and fun on a Spring weekend in May.

The Fine Arts Fiesta is indebted to the hundreds of volunteers, do-nors, sponsors, and institutions who support this annual outdoor arts

festival. The City of Wilkes-Barre, our home, welcomes us each year and is a great host for Fiesta. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Fiesta, I thank all these groups for your time, talent, and dedication to supporting Fiesta in our community.

Our Board of Directors works throughout the year to organize Fiesta. Their hard work and efforts bring it all together for your enjoy-ment. Thanks to the Board. I also thank Brian Benedetti, Executive Director of Fiesta, for his support, leadership and dedication to Fiesta.

Enjoy these four days of culture, art, song, shows, and sights. Gather with your family, friends, and neighbors and celebrate “Fiesta = Arts2”.

Featured PerformersFriday Night: Dustin Douglas and the Electric Gentlemen Capturing the vibe of late 60’s and 70’s blues-laced rock-n- roll, Wilkes-Barre’s premier power blues-rock trio, Dustin Douglas & The Electric Gentlemen mix retro-style and groove a-la (Jimi Hendrix Experience, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin) for a lightning charged, vintage style all their own. Led by transcen-dent lead guitarist/singer/songwriter Dustin Douglas (Lemongelli, The Badlees),

Saturday Night: Drew BaldridgeMusic is best when it’s authentic, when it comes straight from an artist’s heart and bursts from the speak-ers. It makes a connection with the listener that forms an immediate bond. Drew Baldridge creates music with that kind of impact. The happy-go-lucky guy looking to get his groove on in his debut single “Dance With Ya” is the same Drew that enjoys visiting with fans after a show, and it’s that kind of down home charm combined with a powerful voice and constantly-honed songwriting skills that make Baldridge one of country music’s most promising new talents.

Sunday Afternoon: Elephants DancingElephants Dancing is a 7-piece reggae/rock band from Wilkes Barre, driven by a chill, beach vibe and pow-erful roots of reggae. The group delivers an island feel fi lled with heavy grooves, fun melodies, syncopa-tion, and clever raps. Elephants Dancing was created by singer-songwriters Michael Iorio (Lead Vocals/Bass) and Danny Sales (Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), who were childhood friends. The full and unique sound that the band possesses comes from the versatility and spunk of its members, Ross LeSoine (Tenor Sax/Percussion), Miles Fagley-Orfanella (Trumpet/Percussion), Karl Rucker (Lead Guitar), Samantha Carwell (Keyboard), and Jerry Coyle (Drums).
