E-VIGNETTE ROAD USE AUTHORIZATIONThe e-vignette user charge system applies to motorcycles, passenger cars and their trailers, as well as cargo vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 tons, campers and buses, and their trailers. These vehicles are authorized to use the Hungarian toll speedway network’s roads exclusively with pre-purchased – purchased prior to entering a toll speedway section – road use authorization, i.e. e-vignettes. The amount of toll charges depends on the category of the vehicle and the type of the e-vignette. The category of the motor vehicles must be determined according to the official entry that appears in the vehicle registration certificate, based on the maximum permissible gross weight of the motor vehicle and the number of persons it is allowed to transport. From 1 January 2016, changes have been introduced with respect to the toll speedway network and the toll-free sections, therefore, we request you to study the information below in detail. TOLL-FREE SECTIONSAccording to the decree in force, the following road sections can be used toll free:

• the entire section of the M31 motorway,• the Pécs south-west loop section of the M60 motorway between roads no. 58 and 5826,• the section between the Csorna-East junction of the M85 expressway and the M85-M86

diverging junction.• the M86 expressway,• the M8 motorway,• the M9 expressway on its section between Main Road 6 and Main Road 51,• the Kaposvár loop section of M9 expressway (sign of Main Road 61),• the M4 expressway (sign of Main Road 4) on the section between Vecsés and the road

leading to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (between km sections 19+550 and 20+518),

• the following sections of the M0 expressway: ◦ the section between Main Road 1 and the M5 motorway, ◦ the section between the M4 expressway (Main Road 4) and the M3 motorway, ◦ Megyeri Bridge (the section between Main Road 11 and Main Road 2).

VEHICLE CATEGORIESD1 vehicle category: motorcycles, as well as passenger cars with a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 tons and for up to 7 persons including the driver of the passenger car, and their trailers; D2 vehicle category: all passenger cars not included in category D1 – which, for example, are allowed to transport more than 7 persons – as well as cargo vehicles of a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 tons and campers;B2 vehicle category: buses – motor vehicles for the purpose of transportation of passengers, having more than 9 permanent seats, including the seat of the driver;Vehicle category U: trailers of vehicles in vehicle categories D2 and B2, for which authorization must be purchased for the registration number of the trailer in any case.

VALIDITY PERIODS OF E-VIGNETTESWeekly authorization: valid on the starting day designated by the customer and 9 consecutive days, for a total of 10 consecutive calendar days until midnight of the 10th day.Monthly authorization: valid from the starting day designated by the customer until midnight of the day of the same number in the following month. If there is no such day in the month of expiry, then to midnight of the last day of the month.Annual authorization: valid from the first day of the relevant year to midnight on 31 January of the following year (for a total of 13 months if the purchase takes place on 1 January of the relevant year). The annual vignette authorizes road use from the time of purchase and is not valid retroactively.

REGIONAL E-VIGNETTEIn addition to the usual time-based national vignettes (weekly/10-day, monthly and annual), there is also a territory-based annual e-vignette type, the regional vignette, available for vehicles in Categories D1M, D1, D2, U and B2, with which the toll speedway network of a county may be used. For each vehicle, several regional e-vignettes can be purchased. The validity period of this e-vignette type is the same as the validity period of the annual authorization.The scope of validity of the regional vignette extends outside the relevant county, up to the first junction past the county border. For detailed information on the territorial validity of the regional vignettes according to junction numbers and road section numbers, please see the “Road Network” menu item at the www.toll-charge.hu website.

Annual regional vignettes may be purchased for the following counties (having a toll speedway network)

Bács-Kiskun County, Baranya County, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Csongrád County, Fejér County, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hajdú-Bihar County, Heves County, Komárom-Esztergom County, Pest County, Somogy County, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, Tolna County, Veszprém County, Zala County

IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT E-VIGNETTESRoad use authorization must be purchased prior to entering a toll speedway section. E-vignette purchases may not be applied with retroactive validity. In the case of a purchase within the validity period, the starting date of validity is the date of purchase. If you purchase more than one e-vignette at a time, please make sure that you have specified the dates of your journeys (uses) precisely.

UNAUTHORIZED ROAD USEDriving without valid road use authorization on a road section subject to e-vignette toll qualifies as unauthorized road use, and results in excess charge payment in each of the vehicle categories regulated above.

Road use is also considered unauthorized• if the road use authorization was purchased for the wrong category, i.e. an additional trailer

is towed by a bus with a Category B2 authorization (instead of B2+U), or a Category D1 weekly or monthly authorization was purchased for a passenger car for 8 or more persons instead of Category D2;

• if the registration number and/or the country code indicated on the control slip or in the confirming notification is not identical with the actual registration number and/or country code of the vehicle;

• if you have an annual authorization for a given county but you do not use it between the junctions specified in the decree, i.e. you use the toll road network of another county.

In case of electronic purchase of the road use authorization, the confirming notification serves as a proof of purchase. In order to avoid unauthorized road use, please always check the following on your control slip when making your purchase: registration number, country code, vehicle category and validity period.
