of chloramines in three pipes follows: stainless steel pipe> PE pipe > ductile iron pipe. The degradation of E2, as one kind of natural estrogen, by chlorine was investigated.

The results showed that with pH values increasing, degradation of E2 by chlorine was more efficient.

Abstract:

We are faced with concerns of climate change, growing environmental issues (both local and regional), increasing consumption of fossil-based energy resources, and continuous exploitation of limited natural resources. Our research efforts require more holistic approach to address these challenges.

Dr. Khanal’s research efforts are in the interface of energy and environment focusing on bioenergy production, global environmental issues, and resources recovery. His research activities emphasize on linking the fundamentals to applications. Dr. Khanal will share his research work on

Abstract:

This study presents the design of a panel heater triangular solar still (PHTSS) for producing potable water from saline water. The PHTSS is fabricated with cheap, lightweight and available durable materials for easy maintenance. The diurnal variations of temperatures and solar heat are monitored along with the hourly water production.

The relationships between the solar heat and yield, between the temperature difference (cover-water) and yield, and between the ambient air temperature and yield are also obtained.

how periodic dosing of small amount of oxygen into an anaerobic digester prevented the catastrophic failure of AD system at high organic loading rate.

He will also provide highlights of some of his other on-going research works on:

High-rate anaerobic wastewater treatmentFungal process for resource recovery from waste (water)Nitrogen transformations in aquaponics and climate changeAD biorefineryEnvironmental applications of biocharDigestate utilizationBiogas upgrading via biomethanation

The relation between the daily water production and the solar radiation presents a positive linear relation.

A linear proportional relationship is also obtained between the daily production and the temperature difference between water and cover. An inverse relationship is also observed between the yield and the water depth. A few simulation models developed earlier cannot precisely predict the production flux of PHTSS; however, the proposed model can reproduce well the hourly production flux.
