Welcome to the e-learning product manual of the Ertiga.

Our flexible e-learning study courses have been designed to give you the

convenience of studying online, from the comfort of your office or own home and

at a time that suits you.

You do not have a time limit per page and can also page backwards or forward

through the manual.

This training module has been designed to assist the Suzuki Sales Executive to

gather product knowledge and key selling features of the Ertiga and to effectively

communicate these to the potential customer during the sales process.

The concept is to provide easily digestible and concise information regarding the

product features, advantages and benefits and to set out this information in a

manner that will give the Sales Executive the ‘language’ to transfer their

knowledge and can be used as a supporting tool during the product evaluation

with the customer.

Background: The Suzuki Ertiga, is a seven-seat compact MPV developed by the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki and its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki. It was launched in 2012 in India and in Indonesia. Maruti Suzuki proclaims it to be the first LUV (Life Utility Vehicle). It competes with the Toyota Avanza in South Africa.

Feel the Global DNA

The Suzuki Ertiga is based on extended Suzuki Swift platform. This means that the Ertiga is a monocoque MPV. It is also considered to be a cross between a saloon/hatchback and an MPV. The name Ertiga is said to be an adaptation of R-Tiga where "Tiga" means "three" in Indonesian. The "R" stands for Rows. Therefore "Ertiga" is derived from "R3" which in turn means "(Swift with) Three Rows".

A fresh driving Experience

For a normal 3-row seat vehicle of this size, the 3rd row seat is usually just an emergency seat. In order to accommodate two adults in the 3rd row seat, our engineering team put in tremendous efforts into achieving the best possible packaging though measures that include optimising configuration of the fuel tank, seats and floor.

The Ertiga not only offers comfort and roominess – as a member of the Swift family, agile handling and lively performance are part of its DNA.

It strikes an exciting balance of looks and style, without having to compromise on fuel and space efficiency.

A fresh driving Experience

The Ertiga was crafted with tastes and aspirations of a dynamic growing society in mind. A closer analysis of the market highlighted the absence of a model that matched the needs of modern owners for space and versatility. Suzuki addressed this need and in the process, created a whole new class of car. Set to create new benchmarks in the industry, the Ertiga embodies the true essence of innovation and class evolution.

Performance

With the adoption of an intake VVT, combustion efficiency is improved and lower fuel consumption is achieved.

The Ertiga features a light, compact 1.4 L petrol engine that has high Praise on a global level.

1.4 litre Engine

The intake Side is equipped with a VVT mechanism that optimally controls the valve timing, while measures aimed at reducing frication have been implemented throughout. While improving fuel efficiency and environmental performance, the engine ensures smooth driving with incremental torque even when fully loaded with 7 passengers.

Performance

Unnecessary portions were eliminated, while both body rigidity and weight reduction were achieved at a high level. This ensures driving stability when 7 persons are in the same vehicle and/or the vehicle’s weight increases due to luggage.

The platform was developed based on the light, highly rigid platform of the new Swift, which has earned high praise at a global level.

New Platform

In addition to having the characteristic handling and driving stability of the Swift, its wheelbase was expanded to 2,740mm, contributing to roomier interior space.

Fuel Saving Technologies

Suspension

The Ertiga’s suspension was tuned to ensure stability over a wide range of roads. Also, body roll is suppressed during high-speed cornering, giving confidence in the Ertiga’s drivability.

Efforts were made to optimise the structure and materials of the reinforcements through effectively placing high-tensile steel.

33

Pe

rform

an

ce

Handling

Since a propeller shaft is not needed to transmit power to the driven wheels, roomier cabin space can be obtained.

3 Major features

Since power transmission components (the number of parts) are minimal, this contributes to reduce vehicle weight and improved fuel economy.

Cabin space

Fuel economy contribution

Since the engine weight acts on the driven wheels, traction increases and stabilised driving is secured.

Fuel economy contribution

A 60A high-torque motor is used for the electric power steering, enabling easy handling even when 7 persons are on board. Specialised tuning improves the steering feel.

NVH Effective measures have been implemented through repeated wind tunnel tests and actual vehicle driving tests. A comfortable driving space is provided, with only minimal noise and vibration.

What causes NVH?

Colours: Areas where anti-noise &

anti-vibration measures have been taken

Cabin noise comparison

- Engine vibration - Tyre vibration - Wind noise - Road vibrations

Compared to the Avanza, there is 2.25 to 3 dB less noise inside the ERTIGA cabin.

Wind noise test in progress. Actual driving conditions are reproduced using state-of-the-art equipment. Measurements are taken using multiple microphones, sources of noise are then pin-pointed and corrective measures are taken. In this way wind noise is reduced.

*100km/h in 5th gear: dB (decibel): Unit that expresses the size of sound

35

Pe

Safety SRS Airbags

In the event of a frontal collision, SRS airbags may deploy as auxiliary equipment to the seatbelts. Together with the seat belts they lessen impacts to the head and chest of both driver and front passenger.

Head Restraints: Should the

vehicle be struck from the rear, the head restraints reduce the impact to the head region and reduce over-extension of the neck.

Seatbelts: 3-point ELR seatbelts are

installed (2-point in the centre of the 2nd row only). The front seat of the GLX and GL is equipped with a height adjuster.

ABS + EBD Visibility

ABS prevents the wheels from locking by automatically releasing and operating the brakes when the wheels loose grip under harsh braking. In this way drivers can brake and steer to avoid obstructions. EBD proportions brake force to ensure that the vehicle brakes without spinning due to uneven traction on the road surface.

Wide Rear Window The wide rear glass provides excellent visibility.

Front Door Triangle Windows These contribute to safety by reducing blind spots.

36

Pe

rform

an

ce

Safety Safe Body

Security

High Strength, Safe Body

To increase rigidity, high tensile steels are used for the main frame around the occupants, and framework members (shared with the new Swift) are used for the front underfloor and main floor. There are also built-in side impact door beams which further improve side strength.

Side-door Beams

The beams reduce the chances of the door being crushed and lessens impact on the passengers.

Immobiliser With this system the engine cannot be started if the key and the car ID do not match, reducing theft using duplicate keys.

Front Door Triangle Windows These contribute to safety by reducing blind spots.

Security Alarm After the doors are locked by the keyless entry, an alarm will sound if an attempt is made to open the door.

Hooter Confirmation When the doors are locked/unlocked by keyless entry, the hooter will sound and the hazard lamps will flash to confirm.

Warnings and Buzzers For passenger (and car safety), lamps and sounds are used to warn drivers of issues.
