The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been issuing Certificates of Origin authorised by SARS for many years. The system required manual documentation completed by the applicant (exporter) to be physically submitted at the Durban Chamber Offices for physical verification, scrutiny and approval.
As part of our Business Code of Ethics established in 2017, the Durban Chamber pledged to minimise any damage to the environment arising from our activities and therefore want to operate in an environment that is as paperless as possible. The Durban Chamber is excited to announce that we have now moved to a new ONLINE PLATFORM which will allow you to submit your organisation’s documentation electronically for the Durban Chamber to review and digitally approval.
The Durban Chamber selected the essCert Electronic Certificates of Origin (eCOs) solution because it is simple and easy to use. The eCOs solution provides the Durban Chamber with a secure, online tool for the application and issuance of Electronic Certificates of Origin. The Durban Chamber chose this system to improve our efficiencies and service offering but also to deliver added value and benefits to our members and customers through a user-friendly tool.
This online platform allows for easy accessibility, documentation and turn-around time. Migrating to an online platform will also alleviate manual intervention and aid in streamlining capacity within organisations as everything will be done at the leisure of wherever the applicant may be (no need to physically courier the documentation to and from the Durban Chamber offices).
The electronic process is less cumbersome to applicants and will save time and human resources from a convenience perspective. The online platform will allow for applicants to upload all standard formats (system converts to PDF, certified by Durban Chamber then returned as PDF with Durban Chamber stamp digitally affixed). We platform also permits exporters to monitor their applications online on their device.
Additionally, the company, essDOCS, operates the world’s most substantial electronic Certificate of Origin network, including more than 200 Chambers of Commerce and over 33,000 Exporters and Freight Forwarders, issuing eCOs out of 12 export countries and receiving eCOs into 203 import countries.
By using essCert eCOs, our members and business users can apply for, sign, stamp and receive back original electronic Certificates of Origin, eliminating time-consuming and inefficient, manual paper-based processes. The Durban Chamber is excited about introducing this tool, and we hope that the exporters across the province and South Africa who utilise our services benefit from the streamlined efficiencies this tool will add to our overall value proposition.
