Chess is a millenary game. Nobody knows for sure when

or where chess was invented. Most experts believe that

chess was invented over 2,000 years ago in India.

In fact, the current World Chess Champion GM

Viswanathan Anand was born in India.

board. The King moves one square away in

any direction.

The Bishop

The Bishop is a minor piece. The Bishop

captures and moves on diagonals, and it never

changes it’s color square. Bishops can’t jump

over pieces.

The Queen

The Queen is the most powerful piece! The

Queen moves up-down-side-side and

diagonally. The Queen moves and captures like

The Knight

The Knight is a very tricky piece.

It changes its color square every single move.

The Knight moves 2 squares up-down-side-to-side

and then it turns 1 square (Twist).

The Pawn

The Pawn moves only forward, never backwards or sideways.

The Pawn can move one or two squares on it’s first move. Afterwards, only one square

at the time.

When the pawn reaches the last rank (8th) (Pawn Promotion)the Pawn turns into a new

piece: Queen or Rook, Bishop or Knight. The Pawn captures diagonally one square

away

(look at the X marks.)

Special Moves.

Castling: The King can move two squares away towards a Rook,

and the Rook jumps over and lands next to the King.

Checkmate: One King is trapped in “check” & can not escape out of check.

Check : A hostile piece is threaten (To capture) a King.

Note: You can’t capture a King. You can only put it on checkmate and win.

Stalemate: The King is Trapped but it’s not in check, and the game is a draw. Nobody wins.
