Point Score Trophy

Don’t forget the Austin 7 Club “Point Score” program. Our aim is to see as many people attending events and meetings (this includes monthly general meetings) as possible. Participation in an event or outing, begining from the starting point and going through to the finish, will score you 2 points while attendance at a general meeting will score you 1 point. These points are awarded if you show up in your Austin 7 or your modern and the person with the highest points tally will receive a trophy at our Christmas Luncheon/Presentation Day.So get involved, support your Club and have some fun. See the

Coming Events section on page 2 for our next event.

Yes! An Austin 7 Powered Motorcycle

During the early years of mass motoring there were a few strange attempts to couple automobile engines with motor bike components; one of which was the Brough Superior Austin Four which had a short period of infamy during the late 1930’s. Powered by a modified Austin Seven motor and A7 gearbox

it was mainly designed and manufactured for side car use. The power output was quite low but the brisk acceleration more than compensated for a lack of top speed. Although launched to huge acclaim at the 1931 Olympia Motorcycle Show only ten examples were ever produced. It’s greatest success was in fact the huge wave of publicity that

was generated by the sight of such an unusual motor vehicle. This was obviously the inspiration for the latest creation from the zany mind of Warren Bonning; proprietor of Shoe String Motors and special vehicle builder extraordinaire. The Bonning Flyer was part of the Austin Seven display at the recent 2010 Historic Winton weekend.

President’s Report

This month everyone will receive the new updated “Members Mate”. If you take the time to look through it you will notice quite a few new names. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Members and look forward to seeing you out on Club runs. If your Austin 7 is under restoration please feel welcome to come along in your modern car, it’s a great way to meet the rest of the family and learn a little more about your Baby. To those remote Members, there is always the possibility of attending our weekends away or perhaps e-mailing through photographs of your machine for inclusion in our gallery. In recent months we have seen a revival in Club participation. The

Goulburn weekend was very well attended with two new cars on the road, there are record numbers booked for the “All British Day” event with similar numbers booked for Eastern Creek. We still have a few places left in our 2011 calendar so please come

along and join in the next run.

Happy Motoring,Mark Wellington

Event Director’s Report

The last Club run saw our Members visit Rouse Hill Estate and Home. We had a wonderful guide who is a school teacher and has been heavily involved with the refurbishing of the home and the old school. Her knowledge is endless in regard to the estate and the history of this area. It was an extremely enjoyable experience as we strolled round the grounds that took in the amazing stables, gardens and servants quarters. This was a wonderful and graphic experience of Australian living in the early days. It was a good run for the Babies, taking in Rouse Hill, Riverstone, Vineyard and then crossing the Hawkesbury and traveling through Freemans Reach. Later, after a good drive, we crossed the Hawkesbury again from North Richmond into Richmond and lunched by the river. In attendance on the day were; Faye and Robert Yarroll, Joanne and Mark Wellington, Ken Rolley, Judith and Bob Riches, Trevor Hails, Warren Gracie, Maureen and Merv Boatwright with Darryl Stockley joining us at the lunch stop. Please don’t forget to let the Events Director know, if you are going

to the Christmas in July outings as bookings must be made NOW! Also don’t forget to supply your name and numbers for the soup stop and lunch at Nattai Workers Club for the June 20th Run, NOW! – TODAY.Please join us on the runs, give your “Baby” and yourself a good

experience and join in the fun with your fellow Members. The Austin 7 Club has now reached the half way point for the Club Events Outings for 2010 and a number of Austin 7’s on HCRS Registration have yet to venture out on Club Organized Runs for 2010.

See you at the start of the Picton run where you can enjoy a cup of hot soup with damper before we start our journey.

Happy Austin 7 touring,Maureen Boatwright

Happy Birthday to all the Members who celebrate birthdays in
