He is a software developer in Microsoft and a Young India Fellow from Stanford University. He has worked on PragnaCare including Asha workers, Microsoft Ripple center which is Media current days.

Jatin Sharma

MS in healthcare innovation from . Young India Fellow from Stanford University. Holds expertise in Healthdata sensors.

Madhav Malhotra

Works for Teach for India. Formerly worked in TCS as Software Developer. Very good in Android app development.



4What is e-Arogyam ?

“It is a cloud based platform to tackle the problem of lack of medical awareness”

We are approaching the problem from patient side rather than from medical provider’s side. There is a glaring opportunity to do that given the extent mobile penetration.





5Children immunization ?

We are taking our first step with a solution around improving “Children Immunization rate”.



As per WHO, nearly 30% of all non-neonatal, under-five deaths are still preventable through immunization.

6Current Imm. rates in rural UP

The Population Council study shows that in rural UP among children aged 12-23 months, 34 percent were partially immunized and 16 percent had received no immunization at all.

Given pain points emerge from more fundamental issue of awareness and information gap which can be sustainably solved by mHealth based solutions.

Jaleel Ahmed, M. E. Khan & Abhishek Hazra (TJFM, 2010) suggest usage of mobile phones to remind ANMs, ASHA workers to remind families can ensure necessary action in immunization.

Deployment Plan


• Pilot the smartphone based solution with 30 ASHA & 10 ANMS attached to IntraHealth mHealth lab. IntraHealth has acknowledged the usefulness of E-Arogyam and how well it complements mSakhi solution. They have also given thumbs up to leverage the android based smartphones distributed by govt.

• Pilot all-SMS based solution with 30 ASHA workers using basic phone.

• Demonstrate the high impact value of the project in Pilot. Deploy the solution on the scale of Jhansi District.



Funding for pilot

For Pilot we need operational cost of around INR 60,000 (3 months duration) which would account for cloud cost and sms cost. Post pilot with scale we can achieve efficiency of operating at 50% of current cost.
