Differential Diagnosis in Pediatric DermatologyThis book is devoted exclusively to differential diagnosis in pediatric dermatology. It covers the full range of relevant conditions: inherited skin disorders; nevi; viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasit-ic infections; acne; allergic diseases; autoimmune skin disorders; connective tissue diseases; tumors; and miscellaneous conditions. Each comparison addresses the differential diagnosis between two (or occasionally three or four) dermatologi-cal conditions, containing between two and six images and a short text emphasizing the clinical differences between the diseases in question. At the end of each chapter, a summary highlights one or two characteristics essential for the differential diagnosis. The author is an expert who, since 1982, has been responsible for a column devoted to the differential diagnosis of pediatric dermatology in the European Journal of Pediatric Dermatology. The volume will represent an ideal tool for pedi-atric dermatologists, pediatricians, and GPs, and will help them in the diagnostic process.

OrthopantomographyAlthough orthopantomography (OPT) is a very frequently employed radiological examina-tion, even the expert radiologist can encounter difficulty in reporting the findings owing to the specific terminology, the nature of the diagnostic queries, and the need to describe precisely the clinical implications for the dentist. Additionally, artifacts are a frequent occurrence, and many radiologists and dentists are unfamiliar with their causes and solutions. Methodological inaccuracies during the execution of OPTs also have important clinical implications. For all of these reasons, this richly illustrated monograph on OPT sets out to describe in detail diverse technical and method-ological aspects of the examination, from image acquisition through to artifact generation due to lack of experience or malfunctioning. Possible so-lutions are suggested for all of the most common diagnostic and methodological problems.

Features 7 Ideal guide to routine interpretation and reporting of OPTs 7 Provides both technical and clinical information 7 Suggests solutions for all of the most common diagnostic and methodologi-cal problems 7 Richly illustrated

Contents Part I Technique and normal anatomy. 1 Hints of technique and methodology.- 2 Normal anatomy.- Part II Elementary radiographic semeiotics and pathological terminology. 3 Alterations of number, orientation, seat, morphology, width and structure of the dental element.- 4 Caries.- 5 Periapical le-sions.- 6 The periodontal disease.- 7 Cystic lesions and maxillary tumors.- 8 OPT in post-treatment evaluation.

Morbid Obesity in AdolescentsConservative Treatment and Surgical Approaches

As the worldwide prevalence of morbid obesity among adolescents continues to rise, recent years have seen a large increase in the performance of adolescent bariatric surgery. While surgical inter-vention often becomes necessary when conserva-tive weight-loss therapies have failed, no standards regarding the post-operative regimen and long-term management of adolescent patients have been established. Thus, the treatment of obesity and its co-morbidities requires a multidisciplinary approach, taking into account epidemiological, clinical, nutritional, and genetic aspects of morbid obesity in the pediatric age group. This volume discusses both conventional therapy and surgical options for morbid obesity in the pediatric age group. In the first part, obesity-related diseases, genetics, and psychological factors are analyzed. The second part focuses on current bariatric surgery procedures, including dietary restrictions and guidelines to prevent nutritional deficiencies common after surgery. Therefore, the book will prove an invaluable resource for pediatricians, sur-geons, nutritionists, dieticians, and all other health professionals who treat adolescent obesity.

Features 7 Covers the entire range of adolescent obesity management from diagnosis to long-term treat-ment 7 Establishes guidelines and standards for the use of bariatric procedures 7 With contribu-tions by international experts

Advances in Communication Research to Reduce Childhood ObesityRates of childhood obesity are alarmingly high and increasing each year. Studies have shown that obese children are more likely to become obese adults and are likely to suffer with numerous health consequences like coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, and Type II diabetes, among others. Studies also indicate that television viewing and exposure to advertising for food products influences children’s attitudes toward, food prefer-ences and food purchase requests for foods with low nutritional value. It is important to better understand the role of media in childhood obesity and to learn how media may be used to address this issue in a positive way. This book focuses on communication and media research that can have an impact on reducing childhood obesity. Emphasis is placed on topics related to how the media communicate health-related messages about food, nutrition and diet that influence child-hood obesity.
