From left to right, Northeast Magnet School 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Attutis ,with her students A'aleah Hillsman, Addison Ohlmiller, Jack Zionic, Fernando Rubio, and Halle Leone as they present their efforts with the LEGO MINDSTORMS® Project.
W OW, our donors did it
again and made our annu-
al 365 Club Breakfast a
total success!
The 365 Club is our signature fundraiser.
Returning as our Title Sponsor again was
the Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation. The
breakfast celebrates the Foundation’s suc-
cesses from the past year. Over 150 people
braved the cold January morning to see stu-
dents and teachers demonstrate projects
that were funded in part by the generous
gifts of our donors.
This year’s theme centered around robots.
First up was Mrs. Jayme Attutis, a sixth
grade teacher at Northeast Magnet School
and her students, A’aleah Hillsman, Halle
Leone, Addison Ohlmiller, Fernando Rubio,
Nolan Spangler and Jack Zionic to present
about the LEGO MINDSTORMS® Project.
LEGO MINDSTORMS® gives students the
opportunity to create and command their
own robotic LEGO creatures, vehicles, ma-
chines and inventions! By combining
LEGO® elements with a programmable
brick, motors and sensors, students can
make their creations walk, talk, grab, think
and do almost anything you can imagine!
The students explained their short and long
term learning goals and reported on what
they had already achieved. They finished
their presentation with a video of their entire
class thanking everyone for making this pro-
gram possible.
This $44,000 project was funded in part by
the John P. Cadle Foundation, Old National
Bank Foundation, the Ronald McDonald
House of Central Illinois, the Dart Founda-
tion, Ameren Illinois, Aqua Illinois,

Danville High School Class of 1961
and from the generous gifts of our
donors.
Continuing the robot theme, Mrs.
Michele Craig from Mark Denman
Elementary School, her student Xan-
der Hendricks, Mrs. Rachel Webber
from Meade Park Elementary School
and the Assistant Director of Special
Education, Lindsey Nixon, introduced
MILO from RoboKind to the break-
fast attendees.
Milo is a robot designed to be inter-
esting and approachable for learners
with autism. He can walk, talk and
even model human facial expres-
sions. Milo, along with the students’
teacher and supporting curriculum,
helps students with autism improve
their social and behavioral skills and
gain the confidence they need to suc-
ceed academically and socially.
Milo delivers lessons verbally. As he
speaks, symbols are displayed on a
chest screen that helps the student
better understand what MILO is say-
ing.
Milo asks the student to watch four to
five second video clips on a computer
tablet. During the videos, MILO asks
the student “yes” and “no” questions
to help reinforce the lesson.
Using MILO and the Robots4Autism
curriculum, students with autism learn
to tune in on emotions, express em-
pathy, act appropriately in social situ-
ations, self-motivate and generalize
in the population.
During the presentation, MILO
demonstrated all the facial features
that could be displayed.
Xander Hendricks, a student at Mark
Denman Elementary School, partici-
pated in a short lesson with MILO.
Mrs. Craig and Mrs. Webber ex-
plained that the robots have only
been in use a short time, and they
have already seen positive results.
The Danville Public School Founda-
tion purchased three MILO robots
and six computer notebooks for a
cost of $21,000. This was made
possible by a grant from Iroquois
Federal Foundation, the Wheeler
Foundation and the Danville Chapter
of AMBUCS.
Danville School District #118 provid-
ed $23,000 in funding for the required
curriculum for three years.
The MILO robots are currently as-
signed to Mark Denman Elementary
School, Meade Park Elementary
School and North Ridge Middle
School.
To end the breakfast, Mr. Joe Legg of
South View Upper Elementary and 18
of his orchestra students performed.
In the Fall of 2017, Mr. Legg had
more students interested in orchestra
than instruments available. He
turned to the Foundation, and through
a Classroom Grant, the Foundation
purchased six violins so all students
could participate.
(See photo of students with violins on
page 5.)
It was a wonderful way to end a per-
fect morning. Thank you to all of our
donors for helping turn the ordinary
into the extraordinary.
Mrs. Rachel Webber, Special Education
Teacher from Meade Park Elementary,
presents MILO at the 365 Club Breakfast.

Foundation Receives Gifts Throughout the Year
The Danville Public School Founda-
tion is a not for profit organization and
depends on the generosity of our
donors to complete our mission.
Although the 365 Club is the Founda-
tion’s primary fundraising activity, we
also receive gifts throughout the year.
Evening of Singing and Dancing,
will be held on April 27, 2018, at 7:00
p.m., at Danville High School’s Dick
Van Dyke Auditorium. Title sponsors
are Classic Homes Realty &
Watchfire Signs. This event features
the show choirs from Danville High
School, North Ridge Middle School
and the choir at South View Upper
Elementary. It is also when the
Foundation and Danville School Dis-
trict 118 recognizes four outstanding
teachers with the Dr. David L. Fields
Excellence in Teaching Awards. Tick-
ets for this fabulous evening of enter-
tainment are only $5.00 and will be
available at Danville McDonald’s in
April and can be purchased at the
door the night of the event.
Tee It Up For Education, a golf out-
ing, is scheduled for June 10, 2018, at
the Foundation at the Danville Coun-
try Club. Central States Distribution
Services will be our Title Sponsor.
This is a four-member team competi-
tion, and the $100 per person entry
fee includes green fees, cart, lunch,
and contests including longest drive,
closest to pin, longest putt and a
chance to win a car with a hole-in-
one. If you are interested in playing,
online registration will open in April.
Sponsorships are available for $100.
If you are interested, please call the
Foundation Office at 217-444-1044.
The Walk of Honor, located at Dan-
ville High School, is another oppor-
tunity for giving. For a gift of $100, a
donor may have a brick paver en-
graved with up to three lines of text
and placed in the walk honoring a
special person. Click here to order a
brick paver.
Other opportunities for giving are
available throughout the year. Donors
have established scholarships while
others provide gifts for a specific pur-
pose or give a general donation to
support the Foundation. Others
remember a loved one or friend with a
memorial donation in lieu of flowers.
All gifts are truly appreciated. For
more information about donor oppor-
tunities, please call the Foundation or
visit our website at www.dpsf.org.
Thank you for all you do!

We Have Moved - From the Second Floor to the First!
Many of the Danville Public School District’s administrative offices
have moved from the historic Jackson School Building at
516 North Jackson Street to the Dr. David L. Fields Administrative
Services Building located at 110 East Williams Street. That build-
ing was named in honor of Dr. David L. Fields, a long time educa-
tor and superintendent of Danville Public Schools. Dr. Fields is a
current board member of the Danville Public School Foundation.
The Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organization, and
the school district graciously provides office space for the Founda-
tion. The Foundation’s offices are located at the Jackson School
Building and will remain there. However, as a result of the Dis-
trict’s relocation, the Foundation’s office, that had been a single
office on the second floor of the Jackson Building, is now a much
roomier first floor location that includes two offices and a confer-
ence room. Our thanks to District 118 for the continued support of
the Danville Public School Foundation and our new office space. One of Two Offices
