Dysmenorrhea Severe painful cramping in the lower abdomen Accompanied by sweating, headache, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tremulousness Occurring just before or during the menses Occurs in women younger than 20 years old

Primary Dysmenorrhea Etiology Caused by endogenous prostaglandins (excess production of endometrial prostaglandin PGF2 alpha or an elevated PGF2 alpha:PGE2 ratio)

Pain associated with ovulatory cycles Pain not associated with obvious pathologic pelvic diseases
