High data rate wireless communications for WLANs and home A/V networks.

MIMO can provide 1-Gb/s wireless links. Good QoS and range capability in NLOS

environments.However, transceiver design complexity increases !!!

Wired links can provide 10-Gb/s transmission rate !!!


Recent Announcement Sprint Nextel decided to use “Mobile WiMax” for 4G

in Jul 2006.– Intel/Motorola/Samsung support– Shrinking Qualcomm (drop 802.20?)

Comments from JP Morgan (positive)– To cover 100mil. Subscriber, 3 bil$ is required

which expense corresponds to the cost of buying frequency band. Fortunately Sprint already has 100Mhz in 2.5Ghz band.

– Bit per dollar is 1/10 compared to EVDO/3G
