I am not a large animal person. I prefer avian and exotics. Give me a wild macaw any day over a horse or cow (or even a dog). I had a particularly difficult night on Large Animal Emergency Medicine, my one large animal rotation. That night I was by myself on the food animal side. I had a goat with a broken leg that could get himself to standing, but not lay back down, a young alpaca that needed eye drops every hour, another alpaca in DKA on two constant rate infusions (and pumps alarming), a dairy cow that needed IV injections every 4 hours and two other patients that needed monitoring. It was a grueling night with animals I was totally uncomfortable being around!
Greatest career accomplishment
I am a Medical Director/Managing Veterinarian at a small animal/exotics hospital - the same hospital I first worked after graduation. I love where I work and have helped shape it into what it is today. I have a thriving avian/exotic business with loyal long-term clientele.

My continual endeavor is to balance a successful work life with an active social life and family life. I feel it is an accomplishment to be committed and successful both as a mother and wife as well as a professional.
