of branch lines to General Santos, Zamboanga, Dipolog, and Surigao.

The Phase 1: Tagum – Davao – Digos, is a Php 36-B project (funded through GAA). It is set for construction on 2018 and targeted to be

completed on 2021. The railway is a 105-km rail line designed to accommodate around 120,000 passengers per day in its opening year. This will

reduce travel time between Tagum and Digos from 3.5 hours to 1.3 hours, and from CDO to Davao to 2 hours.

The Metro Manila Subway will be the first subway to be built in the country. This 25-km rail line is set for construction in 2019 and targeted to be completed

in 2025 although operations may be scheduled earlier.

It will connect major cities in Metro Manila which will start from Quirino Highway corner Mindanao Avenue, heading to PNR’s FTI Station passing through

Quezon City, Pasig, Makati, Taguig and Parañaque. It will have 13 stations although discussions to extend it to the NAIA are ongoing. Based on projections,

it is expected to service 371,000 passengers per day in its first year of operations. With this project, commuters can get from Quezon City to Taguig in just

31 minutes.

to be completed in 2020. It will have 10 stations and is expected to service 340,000 people daily during its opening year. Commuters from Malolos,

Bulacan will be able to reach Tutuban in as little as 35-mins.

The 70-km stretch from Malolos, Bulacan to Clark has also been approved by the NEDA. The project will make it possible to reach Clark International

Airport from Metro Manila in as little as 55-mins.

The PNR South Commuter, a 72-km segment, will connect Metro Manila to Los Baños, Laguna in just 45 minutes. It costs about PHP 134-B

(funded though GAA and ODA) and can service 330,000 riders daily. Construction is set to start in 2018.

At about the same time, PNR South Long Haul will begin construction, extending the line all the way to Bicol.

Pending since 2009, the construction of the Common Station will finally start in September 2017. At 13,700 sqm. It is bigger, more comfortable, and

future-proof. The Common Station will provide seamless connectivity between LRT Line 1, MRT3, and MRT7. It is expected to service up to 478,000 riders

per day by 2020.

DOTr brought together the top businessmen in the country --- SM, Ayala, and San Miguel --- to work together for a common goal. It took eight years to

identify a single location for the station, but in January 2017, all parties agreed to build the station between SM North EDSA and Trinoma Malls.

The groundbreaking of the Phase 2 of the BIA last December 2016 marks the start of construction works for land-side facilities, which includes 17 buildings for

cargo, air traffic control, material recovery facilities, and water reservoir. The project was delayed for 11 years due to snags in bidding and awarding of

contracts.

The government is keen on equipping all 42 airports with night landing capabilities. This allows airports to accommodate flights after sunset,

which maximizes airport operations and further decongests NAIA and other busy gateways. There are now 19 night-landing capable

airports . Eight (8) more airports are currently being night-rated, namely: Naga, Dumaguete, Dipolog, Cotabato, Tugegarao, Cauayan,

Pagadian, and Ozamis.

CNS/ATM is a state-of-the-art

computer- and satellite-based air traffic

management technology, which is the

same technology being used by

Australia, Taiwan, and other European

states.

Using the CNS/ATM, travel is expected

to be more definite, aircraft identification

to be more established, and safety and

security are guaranteed. It will provide

an efficient, economic, and safer air

traffic flow management in the country.

It will also enable aircraft operators to

meet their departure and arrival

schedules, and choose their preferred

flight profiles with minimum inhibitions.

Upon Secretary Art Tugade’s

assumption in the Department, he

ordered everyone concerned to be

onboard to allow the Civil Aviation

Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to

meet its schedule of completing the

CNS/ATM.

Under the CNS/ATM project, a world-

class air traffic control center will be

built and additional radars will be

established nationwide. As of today, 10

additional radars have been installed.

This means the country has now a total

of 13 radars. The CNS/ATM is

expected to be fully operational on

December 2017.

The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system requires a dedicated roadway for buses to ensure fast and reliable travel times. BRT projects will provide affordable,

high-speed and high-capacity public transport services as well as safe and environment-friendly pedestrian and cyclist facilities. A 48.6-km BRT will be built in

EDSA I 2019. It is expected to serve 1.7 million passengers daily going in and out of EDSA, Ayala, Ortigas and NAIA.

With the groundbreaking held last 21 April 2017, the construction of a barge and RORO terminal in Tanza, Cavite will allow the trans-shipment of cargo

from Manila port to Cavite via barges via roll-on, roll-off (RORO) operations. The project will reduce the number of trucks plying Metro Manila roads,

with the first phase of the project designed to support a total output of 115,000 TEUs per year, or approximately 140,000 fewer truck trips travelling the

city roads annually. Road traffic will be reduced by approximately two (2) km. of trucks when the Cavite Barge Port becomes operational. The terminal

is expected to be completed by December 2018.
