Durham County Council is made up of an elected assembly of 126 councillors accountable to almost 500,000 people in County Durham. The council is responsible for providing a wide range of public services to the people of the county. The council also represents and promotes the interests of County Durham when dealing with regional, national and international affairs.
Identify
DurhamNet (NewCo) is the ISP business if Durham County. They had a major issue with connectivity throughout the schools in the region. Land based circuits were not in the quantity or bandwidth needed to be able to service the schools in their catchment.
Develop
Together with the client we carried out terrain and LOS surveys, and trialled various wireless technology in order to establish is wireless was stable and realistic alternative to LES circuits.
Specify
After successful trials with Motorola and Proxim wireless technology, TSG developed a Wireless link specification for distances up to 15km at 10Mbs. Further to this, DurhamNet (NewCo) agreed a package of surveying, project management and installation services to extend the delivery capability of their team.
TSG has played a key role in the development of the project and their responsiveness, flexibility and attention to detail helped to ensure that the project has succeeded.“
