Thought for the Week Infuse your life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope
. Make your own love. And, whatever your believes, honour your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen…
Yourself, right now, right down here on Earth. ~ Bradley Whitford
From the Headmaster MR P P VILJOEN
Dear Parents
I write this week having just finished paging through the Northglen News, the local community paper. I was struck by the number of articles and stories relating to people and/or institutions who are doing some sort of fundraising or community projects. These stories link to those of our own Josh Crocker who swam the Midmar Mile in aid of one of his friends, or to the numerous people, businesses, friends, or family members who have donated, prayed and supported little Kiara Mun-Gavin, who was so badly injured in an accident on Christmas Eve. Many Durban North residents have also willingly provided DNA samples to identify a potential bone marrow match for Robbie Eddles, suffering from leukaemia. The list goes on and on. To see all of these people working so hard to help others is of course wonderful to see, and is certainly an amazing blessing for all of the affected involved. It is however also a testament to the great community spirit that exits with the Durban North area. When we, as community members, put our heads, hearts and hands together great things happen. I for one, believe this to be an aspect of which we can be very proud of, and is something that makes our community, and of course Northwood and all the other schools in our area, very special. Very few communities have this spirit, and we should certainly cherish this going forward. Coretta Scott King said this about community “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members” If we go by Mrs King’s word, we certainly live in a great community!

We welcome back the U15 Dallas Hutton Water Polo Tournament to be held at Northwood this coming weekend. This tournament held a special place in the hearts of all water polo enthusiasts in KZN but unfortunately fell away in 2007. We have reintroduced it and with great support from KZN High Schools as well as other big schools from around the country we are thrilled to be able to host the tournament once again. We would like to invite all water polo players, parents and supporters to join us for a fantastic weekend with some great food on sale and a great atmosphere around the pool. We would like to thank our supporters for making this tournament possible. A massive thank you to Afro’s Chicken as well as Sunlife Vitamins for coming on board. Thanks to Mr Richter for all your hard work in the build up to this festival and we wish you and your team every success.
