Newsletter 16 of 2015 12 May 2015

Dear Parents,

I hope that Mother’s Day was a very special day for all our Mums. The Sandwich Drive is progressing very well with 12 out of the 15 classes complete. Thank you to the Mums, Dads and Grandparents who came to assist us. It was wonderful having you in the hall and sharing the eau de Peanut butter. We have had sandwiches collected by

Briardene Primary School Indlela – Domino Foundation kwaMashu Christian Sociaety – Zamazulu Old Aged Home Surprise Dlamini – co-ordinator for Orphanages; crèches; clinics in kwaMashu Rejoice – collected on behalf of the Senior Citizens of kwaMashu

Thank you to sponsors

BB for the donation of 100 loaves of bread organised by Mr Chetty (Surina and Suresha Gr 4) Kensington Spar for the donation of 100 loaves of bread Mr and Mrs Moodley (Shivaan Grade 5) for the donation of plastic bags and boxes

The children will come home with the total number of sandwiches that they made entered onto their form. Those who have sponsored their child per sandwich made, will now know the amount they need to send to school e.g. R10 per sandwich x 44 sandwiches made = R440 that needs to be sent to school. Parent Interview Week Formal Parent Interview Week starts on Monday. I am sure that parents have confirmed their interview time with their child’s teacher. Should you not have arranged an interview with your child’s teacher, I urge you to do so as soon as possible. Condolences Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Gessner and her family as they mourn the passing of Mrs Gessner’s mother on Sunday. School Sports Day We were remiss in our planning of Sports Day and did not notice that the Sports Day set for the 20th June clashed with Ramadan therefore Sports Day will now be held on Saturday the 1st August. Please diarise the new date. Eye Screening Children would have brought home a form for parents to complete regarding voluntary eye-screening. Mrs van Dam conducts a basic eye test at school that may indicate if your child experiences any issues with his/her sight. The cost of the test is R40. Sponsors

Have a good week. Yours truly F. Nel (Mrs) Principal

From the... Sports Office

06/05 – Senior Soccer vs Maidstone Primary U10 – Drew 0-0 The U10 boys played well and earned themselves a good result. Our boys need to add more teamwork in their attacking play and this will lead to them scoring more goals. Our defence was strong and is definitely a positive to build on as the season progresses. U11 – Lost 2-3 Our U11 boys dominated their game in terms of possession and chances created. Unfortunately the team was caught on the counter and left the goalkeeper exposed for Maidstone’s goals. Progressing through the season the U11’s can build on their strong attacking display but need to get stronger in defence. U13 – Lost 0-13 This was a terrible performance from our senior boys. We were dominated in the midfield and made silly errors in defence. Our boys showed a lack of commitment and they need to discover a fighting mentality in order to improve their performances.

06/05 – Senior Netball vs Maidstone Primary U10 – Lost 4 -2 The girls really played well during their game. They are starting to get to know each other on the court. The girls need to focus more during practice and attendace at practices need to improve. U11 – Lost 10 – 6 Our U11 girls have the potential to be an awesome team. The girls just need to remember that netball is a team sport and start trusting their teammates. U12 – A Team Lost 10 -7, B Team Lost 8 -0 We are so proud of all our U12 girls. It is really a privilege to be able to give 14 girls the opportunity to play every week. Thank you girls for attending all of your practices. The girls need to remember to apply the things we learn during practice during their matches U13 – Lost 9 – 2 The U13 girls needs to change their attitudes towards practices, they can’t expect to win games if they don’t attend practices. These girls have a lot of potential and a coach who is very eager to teach them new things and transform them into a winning team. 09/05 – Mini-Soccer and Netball at Umhlanga College Soccer – Team 1 – Won 2, Drew 1, Lost 1 Team 2 – Drew 1, Lost 3 This was a good start to the season for our junior boys. They played with good commitment and displayed a high level of intelligence on the soccer field. The goalkeepers had a fantastic morning saving many shots and proved vital for their teams. Netball – Team 1 – Won 2, Lost 2 Team 2 – Won 1, Lost 3 What an amazing day we had during our first junior netball games. We are very proud of all our girls. We can only go forward from here. Thank you so much to all the parents that came to support their children. This Week’s Fixtures: 13/05 – Senior Soccer/Netball – vs Northcrest Primary 16/05 – Junior Soccer/Netball – Chelsea
