System Requirements To work in a dual-controller environment, both controllers must have the same:

 amount of memory installed.

firmware version. See Upgrading the Controller Firmware on page 3.

Installation OverviewFollow the installation process in this guide to insure that both controllers are installed and configured correctly.

The installation process includes the following tasks:

1 Verify that both the primary and secondary controllers have the same amount of memory.

2 Verify that both controllers have the latest version of firmware. See Verifying the Firmware Version on Your Controller on page 3.

If necessary, you can download a newer version of the firmware from www.adaptec.com.

3 Remove the primary controller. Refer to the DuraStor Installation and User’s Guide.

4 Install the second controller into the Controller 1 bay. Refer to the DuraStor Installation and User’s Guide.

Note: On the 6220SS, 7220SS, and 6200SR, the Controller 1 bay is the left-most controller bay. On the 6320SS and 7320SS, the Controller 1 bay is the lower controller bay.

The second controller now becomes the primary controller.

5 Change the mode of the new primary controller. See Changing the Controller’s Operating Mode on page 8.

6 Hot-plug the new secondary controller into the Controller 2 bay. Refer to the DuraStor Installation and User’s Guide.

Verifying the Firmware Version on Your ControllerTo verify the firmware version:

1 Run a terminal emulator program or start the terminal. The screen shots included in this procedure show a Windows HyperTerminal session.

2 Connect to COM 1 if you are using the COM 1 port.

3 Set the port settings to:

 Baud rate: 115,200 bps

 Data bits: 8

 Parity: None

 Stop bits: 1

 Flow control: Xon/Xoff

4 Press Ctrl+R to refresh the terminal screen.

5 Press Enter to display the System Menu in the Adaptec Disk Array Administrator window.
