Principal’s Report ~ Milly Stone This has been another amazing week at Dural PS for our children. Please enjoy reading about the opportunities that your children are able to experience each and every day. Mathematics Throughout Term 3, Arcadia, Glenorie and Dural Public Schools spent their professional learning afternoons working with an amazing mathematician, Anita Chin. Throughout this time, staff were able to look at the Whole School Approach of teaching Mathematics, differentiating instruction, number and algebra. Please have a look at the article from Miss Parker and some of the work her children have attained. The staff are now beginning to implement new ideas and strategies within their teaching programs. This has been a great learning journey. Jacaranda Concert On Tuesday the string group, 6H and Mrs Heinrichson spent the day in Sydney in preparation for their concert on Tuesday night. What a wonderful opportunity for our children to perform at the Opera House. The concert was awe-inspiring. Congratulations! Bring In Day Thank you for your support of the P&C Country Fair by the wonderful response to our bring-in days. The children look great in their onesies or black and white. We collected over 500 bottles of water, 50 packets of seeds and $324 in gold coin donations. This is wonderful community spirit. Our country fair is not very far away. Please remember to put the 29 October in your diary! BBQ Elections this Saturday The P&C are still requiring volunteers to help with the BBQ at Dural Public School this Saturday. This is a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for our school as we are expecting 2000 people to vote. If you can help please email [email protected]. Art Show Our 3 rd Annual art show will be held on Friday 15 September from 6.00pm to 8.00pm and Saturday 16 September 10.00am to 2.00pm. What a great opportunity to view the amazing work that your children are creating with their art program that Miss C has written. I have seen some of the work already and it is stunning. Look forward to seeing you at the art show. Public Speaking Our Stage 2 and 3 Public Speaking finalists have done a fantastic job of preparing and presenting their speeches. Our winners were Angus K 3O, Dana W 3/4R, Cooper A 5R, Emma F 6L. These children will now go on to the Hills Network Public Speaking Competition on the 12 th September at John Purchase Public School. We wish them all the best. MATHEMATICS FUN!!

During term three teachers at Dural Public School have undertaken training conducted by a leading expert in Australian primary mathematics education, Anita Chin. She has delivered a deep, whole- school understanding of the mathematics curriculum, along with innovative teaching techniques that have inspired and delighted the teachers at DPS. Below are some photographs that Miss Parker has shared. In her Anita Chin inspired lesson she selects an image, generally related to mathematics and asks the children to write anything that comes to mind when they observe the image.

“It is amazing what my students created, a whole mind map of ideas demonstrating what they saw.” “An adult should never underestimate the ability of a child!” Miss Parker explained. Miss Parker gets her students to write straight onto their tables when completing certain activities. “It is also fascinating to see how much more my students came up with when I asked them to write their answers straight onto their tables.” “This in itself was so much fun!”

Dear Parents and Carers, Another great week at OOSH and the children are getting involved in choosing new games and outdoor equipment that they would like to have at the centre. We will be purchasing new hula-hoops and soccer nets so they can enjoy fun outdoor activities in this wonderful spring weather. We are always open to new ideas so if there are any outdoor games that your children love at home, then let us know so we can purchase them here. We are having fun adding to our vacation care programme and with ‘Spring’ the theme, we will be celebrating the ‘flower children of the 70’s’ with fluoro colours. Here is just a sample of some activities. We will have fun with tie-dye – creating colourful shirts and bags along with creating some colourful sand jars. If you have any unusually shaped empty jars, we would love them. Please contact the centre if you would like to send your children to vacation care.

UNIFORM SHOP Dr Shoe will be outside the uniform shop

from 2.45-3.45pm on Tuesday 12th

September.
