Society of Petroleum Engineers
IIT Madras
London School of Energy Studies
About the International Conference
SPE is the largest individual-member organization serving
managers, engineers, scientists and other professionals
worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas
industry. SPE offers unique opportunity to contribute to
the profession through their programs and activities and
many of their accomplishments are driven by dedicated
members.
IIT Madras is a premier centre for teaching, research
and industrial consultancy in the country. Petroleum
engineering program was started in 2009 to train
manpower and to pursue research in the area of upstreamOil & Gas exploration and production. The campus is
situated in lush green environment and the weather in
the month of March is expected to be pleasant with0 0temperatures around 30 C (max) and 24 C (min).
Headquartered in London, the London School of Energy
Studies is dedicated to promoting world-class training,
consultancy services and outreach services to the energy sector. The innovative instructional programs of LSES are
tailored to address the needs of the industry.
The theme of the conference is “Developing
Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources” with the sub topicsas “Emerging Technologies and challenges”; “Exploration
& Production issues in South Asia” and “Lessons from
Europe and North America” . Development of
unconventional oil and gas resources has immense
potential as demonstrated by the US experience in shale gas
development and production and China rapidly moving
towards shale gas development. India has vast deposits of shale gas ready for development. Similar activities in South
Asia are at a preliminary stage of development and policy
framework required for this is not fully in place. As the
Industry experts and academia focus on the emerging
technologies, new locations, environmental challenges and
country specific licensing issues, it is expected that theoutcome of the conference would give a better
understanding to the policy makers on exploration and
production strategies. Skill development in Asia would be
one of the challenges and the conference is expected to
address this aspect.
