MOMS’ NIGHT OUT REPORT- 10/11 By:Kristen DeMarco

On Friday, October 11, a group of six moms with

children ranging from babies to elementary age gathered

at Zinburger for a couple of hours of food, drinks, and

conversation. Everyone who attended had a fun time

meeting new people or catching up with familiar ones

and chatting about life with other adults! This informal

Mom’s Night Out group started last winter thanks to a

great suggestion from one of our Sedgefield neighbors.

It has met four times either at volunteer hostess’s

houses or out, and there is no commitment to make it

each time. Our next one is scheduled for December 6,

location TBD. If you are interested in joining us for that

night or future ones, please email

[email protected] to be added to the email

thread.

HALLOWEEN PARADE REPORT-10/26

By: SCA Board

Outstanding, wonderful and fun were some of the

responses from our neighbors and Sedgebots. The

weather was pleasant. We estimate over 100 attended

this years’ event, including some neighbors from Glacier

Hills, on Saturday, October 26th

. The parade started at

12:00 PM. All the children and some parents dressed in

their best costumes, and made our parade a fun event.

The entertainer Big Jeff waited at the end of the parade

on the Grafton Drive circle. After the pleasant walk, the

kids and adults enjoyed the interactive singing and

dancing show. We thank all those neighbors that came

out to cheer on and hand out candies to our little ones.

We want to send a big thank you to all that helped with

traffic control, the set-up, clean-up afterwards, and in

particular to Raj and Kristen for organizing. It was

another great SCA Halloween event!!!!

SCA Fundraising Event at

Annabella’s Restaurant Report

(11/11 & 12) Several Sedgefield residents dined

at Annabella’s in Morris Plains on

Monday, November 11th and

Tuesday November 12th

to support

our fundraising. SCA will receive

15% donation from Annabella’s.

Thank you for your support.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE REPORT By: Bob Roberti

The SCA Beautification Committee was hard at work

planting the Sedgefield Sign Flower Boxes with a

beautiful fall display consisting of bails of straw,

beautiful mums, ornamental cabbages, pumpkins and a

few mini scarecrows. The verbal comments we received

thus far have all been positive. The summer and fall

plantings were the best in years. Sedgefield pride is on

display every time someone drives in an out of our

community. Please continue to support your Sedgefield

Civic Association when paying your annual

dues. Please add an extra donation to help the

Beautification Committee purchase the flowers, plants,

fertilizer, and mulch necessary to make Sedgefield a

beautiful community.

The fall plantings will remain until the first weekend

in December. On Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019 at 8:00 am I

would appreciate a few extra volunteers, for just one

hour, to help remove the display items and clean out

the flower beds. Please call me, Bob Roberti, at 973-

993-8382 if you can help. Just a side note, our SCA

Beautification Committee is made up of about six (6)

steady volunteers. I celebrated my 75th birthday in

October and I am NOT the oldest member of the

group. Thank God we are all pretty healthy, but as you

can see, we need some younger blood. Please consider

joining our committee, the work is very rewarding and

the results are just fantastic.

BERKELEY COLLEGE OFFERS

SEDGEFIELD DISCOUNT By:Bob Roberti

The Berkeley College, Woodland Park, NJ has unveiled

a new program offering college tuition discounts up to

30% for new enrollment students who qualify under a

special plan. The first prerequisite is the family must be

a member of a qualified organization. The Sedgefield

Civic Association is a non-profit organization that has

qualified for this plan. The college recognizes that there

are many students who cannot afford the traditional four

year college dorm life experience, or wish to attend

college but live at home, or may just want to enroll in

specific business courses. Berkeley College has

nontraditional courses, non-degree business courses,

four year degree programs and an MBA program.

Please contact the Admissions Office at the college

and ask for the representative of the Special 30% Tuition

Discount Program. They are registering students for the

Spring 2020 semester.

FLU, PNEUMONIA AND RABIES By: Marilyn C. Potenza RN-BC

Don't forget we are heading into flu season. Everyone

is encouraged to get their flu vaccine ASAP. Call your

private medical doctor (PMD) to get on their list. Parents

with small children should call their pediatrician now to

get on their list. Babies can be immunized as early as 6

months. Everyone should ask their PMD about the

pertussis vaccine. Pertussis (Whooping Cough) is

contagious and severe complications can develop from

it, especially in newborns and elderly. The vaccine that

we had as children is not effective today. CVS and other

pharmacies can give vaccines against pertussis. They

also provide anti-pneumonia vaccine and the "shingles"

vaccine for adults over 59 years old. We went to the

CVS in Denville, and an RN, Nurse Practitioner gave us

the vaccines at little or no cost. Medicare covers most of

cost. You can make an appointment online which is

much easier than waiting at our PMD's office. We got

the paper work and sent a copy to our PMD for them to

updated and keep in our medical records.

As with everything medical, check with your doctor,

and please do not go to the emergency department

expecting them to give you a vaccine.

It is also important of being aware of possibility of

rabies in our area. If you or your children are exposed

to a bat in your home or in an enclosed area, like a car,

call your PMD for advice about whether to go to your

local emergency department for a series of rabies

vaccine. You can also check online at

www.WebMD.com for additional information;

however, it is extremely important to call your PMD

first, before you rush to a busy emergency department.

Flu season has started and you do not want to expose

yourself or your children if it is not an emergency.

Winter Safety Tips By: Carlos Guzmán

Winter is officially here. Let’s take some necessary

precautions and keep our home and our community safe.

· Clear a path and your steps of snow or ice for your

safety and the safety of your mailman and visitors.

Please note that your Mail Carriers can actually refuse to

deliver mail to your box if a path is not cleared.

· Clear a fire hydrant on or near your home, of snow.

Make it visible and accessible to the Fire Dept. Your

assistance can save lives.

· Remember, safety first when operating snow

blowers. Watch your fingers and watch for small

children playing in the snow drifts.

· Pace yourself when shoveling show. Dress in layers

and cover your mouth if it is windy.

· If you have an elderly person living nearby, see what

you can do to help. The Sedgefield community prides

themselves in helping each other out.

· Home fireplaces, heaters or kerosene heaters can be

a hazard. Do not leave small children alone when there

is a fire going.

Vehicle Parking During Snow Storms By: Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department

§ 405-10. Temporary parking prohibition for

snow plowing and removal. A. Prohibition. (1) Whenever snow has fallen and the

accumulation is such that it covers the streets and

highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall

be parked on any street or highway or portions thereof.

(2) The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect

until after the snow has ceased and the streets have been

plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will

not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.

B. Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in

violation shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace to the

safe and proper regulation of traffic, and any police

officer may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The

owner shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and

storage which may result from such removal before

regaining possession of the vehicle.

ENJOY A MERRY "CRAFTS-MAS" AT

CRAFTSMAN FARMS By: Corey Abate

If you are looking for something completely unique

to see this holiday season, located right here in

Parsippany on Route 10, consider visiting The Stickley

Museum at Craftsman Farms throughout December.

Craftsman Farms is the former country estate of famous

designer Gustav Stickley, who was a founder of the

"mission" or "craftsman" style of furniture and

accessories. The property is decorated for the holidays in

the style the Stickley family would have done a century

ago, and throughout the month there are candlelight

tours of the home, and a holiday boutique to help

complete your shopping with finding a unique gift made

by artisans. This is truly a neighborhood treasure worth

visiting and supporting. For more information, visit their

website: www.stickleymuseum.org

RECYCLING IN PARSIPPANY Our Parsippany Township has added a way

for us not to forget to put out our Garbage,

recycles, yard wastes, and other items, download the
