    Autumn is in the Air

A lthough it may not feel like it here in South Florida, its offi-cially fall. We may not have the cooler temperatures, but we certainly experi-ence everything else that comes with this season the routine of weekday homework, piano lessons, sports practices and weekend games and birthday parties.

Another tell-tale sign of the season is the store shelves lined with Halloween cos-tumes and tasty treats. Now is the time to embrace this playful time of year. Decorate the house for Halloween. Gather the kids to carve the pumpkin. Invite the neighbors over to bob for apples.

On Halloween night, lets all have some fun while watching our little ones roam the neighborhood dressed as fairy princesses, superheroes, or whatever else tickles their fancy. Dont forget to take lots of pictures, as these are the memories that last a lifetime.

Have a happy and safe Halloween everyone!

    Sincerely,

    Sven BudzischSven Budzisch

This month, hundreds of Davie students will have a much better idea of what it takes to run a city. Some will even get a chance to make important decisions when they play the role of Mayor. It is all part of Government Week, which will be held from Oct. 17 to 21. The

Florida League of Cities, an association of member municipalities throughout Florida, is sponsoring My city: Im part of it; Im proud of it. The program is designed to educate school-aged children about city government functions. The Town of Davie will be providing students with tours of Davie Town Hall to inform them about their local government. We want our young residents to understand how government

works and why it is important, said Special Projects Director Bonnie Stafiej, who organizes the program.

Last year, more than 200 students, from second grade to high school participated. They spent time touring the Town Hall administrative offices, and visiting with the Mayor, Town Council members and the Town Administrator. The students came with a list of questions. They wanted to know the salaries of government officials and employees; how much schooling the jobs require; why it takes so many people to run a city; why the City keeps raising taxes and more.

The older students had an opportunity to participate in a mock Council meeting in the Council chambers. The mayor and council members responded to the

issues raised at the public hearing. We want the kids to understand that every resident has a right to come to the council meetings to voice their opinions or ask a question, said Stafiej. Stafiej says that residents are often afraid to address the local government. The City has an open door policy and City officials are very accessible, continued Stafiej. If residents do not want to go to council meetings, they can ask questions online or by phone.

For information or to participate, call 954-797-1163; send an email to [email protected] or visit www.davie-fl.gov.

    Davie Celebrates Government Week

The Town of Davie is celebrating its 50th birthday with many exciting family fun and educational events that begin this month and end with a Birthday Bash Party at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds on November 20. Some of them include historical reenactments, a Police and Fire Expo, free concerts, trail rides, professional rodeos, bike rallies, hayrides and a Craft and Green Fair, as well as a poster and essay contest.

Davies history actually dates back well beyond 50 years. In 1925, Davie was incorpo-rated by the vote of 48 residents who met in the upper room of the Old Davie School. Less than a year later on September 16, 1926, the Great Miami Hurricane struck, leaving Davie with flooded fields, dead cattle, and ruined homes. At the next session of the legislature, Davie residents petitioned and were granted the dissolution of the municipality. The town was officially charted in 1961.

The poster and essay contest is designed to engage students in an awareness of the community in which they live and to give them an opportunity to participate in the making of history. The contest will be conducted throughout private and public schools in the Town of Davie. The poster contest is only for grades k - 3 and the essay contest is only for grades 4 - 12.

Entries will be judged on the criteria of originality and adhering to the contest prompt, which states, The Town of Davie is known for its western theme. Cowboys

and rodeos are an integral part of the town. The town is also known for being a center for educational studies, especially the colleges and universities that are located here in the Educational Center. It has a long history in Broward County. The original name of Davie was Zona. We are celebrating our 50th birthday and we would like to hear from you about the future. Describe your vision of what Davie will look like 50 years into the future.

The winners of the contest have a real opportunity to make a lasting impression. On November 5, the Town will seal a time

capsule on the lawn of the historical Davie town hall and the winning poster and essay entries will be in it. The capsule will be opened and shared with the future residents of Davie in the year 2061. The winning entries will also be on display throughout the month of November in the Town Hall Council Chambers and the winning essay will be read on stage during the Birthday Bash Celebration on November 20. Rosettes will be awarded for the best theme posters and essays in all grade levels from participating schools and groups and all entries submitted will receive a participation ribbon.

The deadline for submitting applications and entries is October 17. Entries can be mailed or dropped off at the Town of Davie/Special Projects office at 6591 Orange Drive, Davie FL, 33314. For information, visit www.davie-fl.gov, call 954-797-1163 or send an email to [email protected].

Bradford Capuozzo is on his way to sharing a prestigious title with notables like Neil Armstrong, Michael Bloomberg, Gerald R. Ford, Bill Gates Sr., James A. Lovell Jr. and many others. If everything goes as planned, he will soon become Troop 224s next Eagle Scout.

Bradford has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America since he was a toddler. His brother was a Scout and his whole family attended events together. He officially joined when he was in kindergarten and has been working his way toward becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the program. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges, as well as an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages

Troop 224 is located in Southwest Ranches so Bradford wanted to do something that would benefit the Town. He met with Town Arborist December Lauretano-Haines to brainstorm ideas. She explained that the Town had planted two yellow tabebuia near the parks pond, but one had been lost in a storm. He agreed to replant the tree, but wanted to do more. He developed a plan and met with the Towns Recreation, Forestry and Natural Resources Advisory Board as

well as the Town Council to get approval. Both bodies supported the project wholeheartedly.

Using a red, white and blue theme, he would plant dwarf ixora, bridal bouquet, and plumbago. All of these plants are drought tolerant, hardy, evergreens that can be kept to shrub size and will continue flow-ering through most of the year. He would also plant a second yellow tabebuia, donated by Florida Paradise Nursery, and install a bench so visitors could rest and enjoy the new scenery.

After months of planning and soliciting donations, Bradford gathered troop members, friends and oth-ers to help him with the beautification project. They removed the grass, covered the area in mulch, dug holes for the trees and planted them. They also installed the bench. A few hours later, the twenty volunteers had transformed the park. Now it looks more like a park instead of just a pond, said Bradford.

Bradford is used to taking leadership roles and says he owes it all to his experience with the Scouts. He is an instructor for other Scouts in his troop, captain of his swim team, stage manager for HANDS and more.

Scouting has taught me to become a leader, said Bradford. Whenever I am involved in something, it is natural position for me to take.

W ith the holidays approaching, many have already started shopping for those perfect gifts. Chances are you will find them at the 4th Annual Town of Southwest Ranches Country Roads Arts and Crafts Festival. The event will be held on October 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Sunshine Ranches Equestrian Park.

Former Mayor Mecca Fink came up with the idea for the Festival four years ago. She wanted to create a way for the community to gather in order to share their talents and crafts. The first year was a huge success, with more than 1,000 visi-tors and 60 venders. The festival has continued to grow. It is a great opportunity to do some holiday shopping, enjoy a beautiful park atmosphere, and spend time with friends and family, said December Lauretano-Haines, PROS Supervisor.

It offers fun for the whole family. Most of the items at the Festival are handmade or hand-

embellished. They include stained glass, fabric and leather crafts, specialty wood products, mosaics, paintings, jewelry, childrens clothing, pet items and much more. The Town of Southwest Ranches will be providing entertainment for the event. There will be a blue grass band, bounce house, face painter and more. There will also be plenty of food from

vendors. The Boy Scouts will be selling water, as well as their infamous roasted corn. There is a playground close by so parents can shop while their kids play.

Carolyn Sheron has attended the festival for the past two years with her family and looks forward to returning. I always find gifts for everyone on my holiday list, including my dog, said Carolyn. It is so much fun to browse through all of the crafts. I also enjoy spending time with friends and neighbors and catching up. My whole family loves it!

For those who have the creative bug, it is not too late to sign up to exhibit. If you love to sew, paint, knit, quilt, draw, throw pottery, or do some other type of handiwork and have items to sell to the public, the festival is a great place to do it. All items for the show must be handmade crafts or original art.

Sunshine Ranches Equestrian Park is located at 5840 SW 148 Avenue. For information, send an email to [email protected]; call 954-343-7452 or visit www.southwestranches.org.

The women of Ghanamaa (Women/Ladies of Ghana) believe that when you educate a man you educate an individual, but when you edu-cate a woman you educate a nation. On October 15, the group will gather at the Signature Grand in Davie for the 4th Annual Fundraising Ball in an effort to raise money and educate as many women as possible during Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The theme of the event is My Sister, My Self, My Strength. The event opens with keynote speaker Dr. Judith Hurley MD, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Dept. of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Miami, who will talk about the latest genetic research in the field of breast cancer. She will focus on triple negative cancer, an aggressive form of breast cancer that tends to affect young African-American and Hispanic women. The cancer is resistant to drugs that work for other types of breast cancer. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) Foundation. Too many women in West Africa and the United States die from triple negative breast cancer, said Elva Manning, public relations officer for the group. We must find a cure. The lecture will be followed by dinner, dancing to the sounds of Yvette Marshall, raffles and an auction.

Founded in 2006, Ghanamaa is a non-profit (501C3) organization conceived for and

by women of Ghanaian descent, wives of Ghana and sister friends of Ghana. It has 26 members who are from the United States, the Caribbean and Ghana. The group is dedicated to charitable benevolent activities that are related to womens health issues both in the United States and Africa. The women spent two years raising awareness of female genital mutilation, a problem that still exists in Africa and some other countries.

Ghanamaa also serves to foster friend-ships, empower women and promote Ghanaian culture. The group meets the last Sunday of each month at a different members home for planning, discussion

and social interaction. It welcomes all members, as long as they are interested in work-ing for the common goal.

Elva Manning joined the group three years ago. She is Jamaican and has traveled to Ghana many times. There is so much disparity in healthcare treatments, said Elva, who is a healthcare professional. So many women cannot afford treatments and their health suffers as a result. We need to raise awareness so they can get the proper treatment.

Tickets are $65 and must be purchased in advance. For information, visit www.ghanamaainc.org, call 954-478-9575, or send an email to [email protected].

On October 24, more than 100 golfers are expected to gather for a fun day of golf, and all for a good cause. The KID Auxiliary Masters Golf Tournament is returning and all of the proceeds will help raise funds for Kids In Distress, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to protect-ing children in South Florida from abuse and neglect. KID strives to establish strong and healthy families that can care for their children and keep them safe.

Last year, the tournament was held at Jacaranda Golf Club and raised over $23,000. This year it has been moved to Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie and organizers are hoping to raise even more. The tournament begins with registration and a pre-tournament lunch at 11:30 a.m. There is a shotgun start at 1 p.m., followed by a barbecue dinner complete with raffles and awards. Players of all skill levels are welcome to participate in the 18-hole scramble.

The individual player fee of $175 includes greens fees, cart, pre-tournament picnic lunch, dinner and prizes. For $30, non-golfers will

be able to purchase tickets in advance for the dinner. In addition to participating as a golfer, there are also sponsorship opportunities that range from Title ($5,000) to Tee Sponsor ($200).

The golf tournament is one of many fundrais-ers organized by the Kids in Distress Auxiliary. The largest one is the gala, which takes place in March. The Kids in Distress Auxiliary is a great group of people who are raising money for a worthwhile cause, said Liz Kelley, golf chair, who has been a member of the Auxiliary for seven years. It is a wonderful feeling to be part of an organization dedicated to helping children in need.

    health & wellness

The use of hormones has sparked much debate on their efficacy and safety. There are many myths circulating about hormones that have no founded evidence or truth to support these statements. I am continuing this series to dispel the common myths surrounding hormone therapy. I will give you true scientific data so you may have all the options available in order to make an educated choice.

Myth I dont need hormones because my lab values are within the normal range.

This is incorrect. For instance, a woman in her fifties may have a level of 0.0 for her testosterone. This number is actually within the normal range, but is 0.0 actually normal? The lab value for your hormones is based on your age groups hormonal average. If you want to look and feel your age than this normal range is ok for you, but if you want to feel like a thirty year old and look your best at your age than this normal level may not be for you. Furthermore, the lab value is just one piece of the puzzle. Symptoms of hormone imbalance or depletion are hot flashes, low libido, fatigue, irritability and the list continues. This list of symptoms along with the labs paint a bigger picture than evaluating one static lab value to determine your need of hormones.

Myth Testosterone is a hormone for men only. This is incorrect. In women, testosterone is produced by the ovaries and the

adrenal glands. In women the testosterone level continually declines with age. In addi-tion, if the ovaries are removed the level will drop dramatically by 50%. Testosterone is the basis for many functions in females such as lean body mass, bone strength, libido and cognitive functions of the brain. To prevent osteoporosis, improve libido, decrease mental fogginess and mid section body fat, bio-identical testosterone pellet therapy is the best method available. In fact, Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy utilizing pellets has been shown to increase bone density by 8.3% each year which is remarkable compared to other methods such as creams or patches which is less than half this rate (Smith/Studd, british journal of hospital medicine, 1993).

Moreover, there have been documented studies from the University of Southern California and the University of California

which have shown an increased incidence of dementia and Alzheimers disease with low testosterone levels. Although women have only a fraction of testosterone than that of men it is essential to maintain optimal levels for optimal health. For those who are on Bio-identical Hormone Therapy it is imperative that a balance be maintained with not only estrogen and progesterone but also with testosterone therapy.

Dr. Jean-Claude Nerette is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Stephanie Muniz Nerette is Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. They both specialize in Functional Medicine and Sottopelle Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy. Their practice is located at 2665 Executive Park Drive, Suite #3, in Weston. Culture Vultures is celebrat-ing its 10th anniversary of bringing varied cultural programs to Broward County. The Sunday Happenings have included artists, astronomers, chefs, constitutional scholars, authors, dancers, critics, novelists, poets, pianists, violinists, barbershop quartets and more. The programs run from October to May, at the NOVA Alvin Sherman Library in Davie, from 2 to 4 p.m. They are free and open to the public

On October 9, Violinist Monty Bloom will showcase his brilliant technique and sweet, powerful sound as he plays music written throughout the golden age of violin. The program includes music written by Wieniawski, Sarasate and Kreisler. On November 13, German artist Wulf Treu will take the audience on a visual tour of his recent show. Treu mixes bright colors with dark subjects and an ironic sense of humor to surprise and engage the viewer with his unique style and perspective. Other upcoming events include Russian pianist Damira Feldman, Miami Herald sports writer Clark Spencer, working artist and teacher Roslyn Roth, astronomer Janis Hernandez, author Eric Lamet and professional photographer Michael Joseph.

Culture Vultures was started by a few women from Pembroke Pines who were tired of travelling to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale for cultural events. They decided to focus their efforts on enhancing arts programming in their own hometown. The Sunday Happenings were originally offered at the Southwest Regional Library in Pembroke

Pines. In 2009, the library was forced to close on Sundays so they moved the programming to the Alvin Sherman Library. We try to take the broadest view of culture to include art, music, literature, sports, science, medicine and any other topic we think of that will provide an interesting and entertaining event, said Marni Most, who is one of six volunteers that organize the programs. In these difficult financial times, we are happy that we can provide free, friendly, entertaining afternoon programs.

In the beginning years, all of the presenters volunteered their time and talent. While most still offer their programs free of charge, Culture Vultures now has a small budget to work with for those who require a fee. The 501-C-3 chari-

table organization depends entirely on donations to run the programs. It has received corporate sponsorship from a few local businesses, and donations of $10 to $25 from audience members. Whole Foods Market of Plantation recently partnered with Culture Vultures for the Donate Your Dimes and designated the organization as their charity for the quarter. In addition, Whole Foods provided refreshments for the audience last year and has agreed to do it again for this years programming.

For information on the Culture Vultures, visit www.culturevultures.com or send an email to [email protected]. The Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center is located at 3100 Ray Ferrero, Jr. Blvd., in Davie. For information, call 954-262-5477 or visit www.nova.edu/library/main.

Massage Envy Spa in Cooper City Hosts Healing Hands for Arthritis

On October 12, nearly 700 Massage Envy loca-tions around the country will join the fight against arthritis on World Arthritis Day. Massage Envy, the pioneer and national leader of professional, convenient and affordable massage and spa services, has joined forces with the Arthritis Foundation to host Healing Hands for Arthritis, a one-day national event to build awareness and raise funds to fight the disease. Massage Envy Spa in Cooper City will donate $10 from every one-hour massage and facial session to the Arthritis Foundation. Prices range from $39 to $49, depending on the service.

Partnering with the Arthritis Foundation was a natural fit for Massage Envy because both share a common understanding about the devastating effects of arthritis on the body and the power of massage therapy to relieve and control certain symptoms.

Arthritis strikes 50 million Americans, one in five, and that number continues to grow. It is serious. It is debilitating. It is painful. Arthritis impacts people of every age. Two-thirds of those who suffer from the disease are under the age of 65, including approximately 300,000 children unable to live a pain-free life. Arthritis is the nations leading cause of disability and exerts a heavy financial toll of $128 billion annually in medical expenses, lost earnings and reduced productivity. This is why the Arthritis Foundation exists and why the Massage Envy family proudly supports the cause.

All proceeds donated during the event will support the Arthritis Foundations efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases. Additionally, Murad, Massage Envy Spas exclusive skin care partner, will donate 10 percent of all sales from their products sold at Massage Envy Spa locations during the event to the Arthritis Foundation.

Founded in 1948, the Arthritis Foundation is the only national not-for-profit orga-nization that supports the more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions. It is the largest contributor to arthritis research in the world, funding more than $380 million in research grants since its inception. The foundation helps people take control of arthritis by providing public health education; pursuing public policy and legisla-tion; and conducting evidence-based programs to improve the quality of life for those living with arthritis.

Over the past several years, Massage Envy has also contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund clinical research related to the benefits of massage therapy. Recent scientific studies have found massage therapy increases immune function, decreases stress and reduces recovery times in many medical conditions including arthritis.

In addition to hosting Healing Hands for Arthritis, Massage Envy is a national spon-sor of the 200 Arthritis Foundation Arthritis Walk events. Massage Envy owners from across the country have and continue to participate in these walks to share information about the benefits of massage therapy in reducing the pain caused by arthritis.

While Massage Envy Cooper City has been providing therapeutic massages for over

three years, the owners recently added Murad Healthy Skin Facials to its menu of ser-vices, thereby becoming only one of four Massage Envy Spas in Broward County. The Murad Healthy Skin Facials feature specially formulated products from world-renowned dermatologist Dr. Howard Murad and help clients achieve balanced, more youthful looking skin. Sessions begin with a skin analysis by a licensed, trained esthetician who recommends one of four 50-minute custom facials, including: Rapid Exfoliator Anti-Aging, Clarifying Enzyme Acne, Environmental Shield Vitamin C Infusion, and Sensitive Skin. Massage Envy also sells the full line of Murad retail products so clients can continue their skin care regimen at home.

The Cooper City location also added four new aromatherapy massages to enhance the experience and clients leave with a bottle of aromatherapy lotion so they can continue the healing benefits at home. Another popular choice is the Hot Stone Therapy, which melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness, and increases circulation and metabolism. Clients also love the new Deep Heat Relief Muscle Therapy, which is ideal for anyone who suffers from chronic pain or limited mobility due to athletic training, repetitive movements, and overuse. Whether you are looking to relieve stress; lower your blood pressure or get some much needed relaxation, our flexible scheduling and affordable prices make enjoying a little slice of heaven easy, any time you like, said Owner Pamela Altman.

Become a partner in the cause. Feel the positive benefits of massage by taking advantage of any of the varied services and participate in Healing Hands for Arthritis. Please contact Massage Envy Spa in Cooper City, 2651 N. Hiatus Road, in the Embassy Lakes Shopping Center next to Tuesday Morning. To make an appointment, call 954-432-1112. Dear Friend,

I want to give credit where credit is due. So, perhaps a confession can help clear the air so theres no misunderstanding. Before I talk about my confession, though, let me say a few other things first.

Let me start by explaining the photo in this letter. You know, when I meet people in town they usually say, Oh, yeah, I know you, youre Dr. Rick. Ive seen your ad with that picture of you and your family. Well, Im the guy on the right.

Twenty years ago something happened to me that changed my life forever. I was a junior in high school and I started getting migraines. I had suffered from intense headaches since childhood. Over the years, I consulted many medical doctors, and specialists. I went through all kinds of tests, MRIs, and treatments. I tried every drug in the market; our medicine cabinet looked like a hospitals infirmary. And still, nothing helped. But theres more

A friend of mine convinced me to give a chiropractor a try. The chiropractor examined me, took X-rays, and then adjusted my spine. The adjustment did not hurt; it actually felt good. And guess whatI started feeling so much better! From daily migraines, I went down to three a week, and then to once in a great while. Thats when I realized that I wanted to become a chiropractor and help others. Thats how it happened!

Its strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their migraines. They also come to me with their chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder/arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, backaches, ear infections, asthma, allergies, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, just to name a few.

Heres what some of my patients had to say:

Due to an auto accident, I suffered from severe neck pain, vertigo and I could not raise my arm to comb my hair. Now I am symptom free with no medication and I can do everything I could not do before. E. Heaney, Hollywood, FL

Thanks to the DRX 9000 and the doctors, I no longer have chronic sciatic pain. Its been a long time since I have taken pain medication. J. Walker, Miramar

Several times a day patients thank me for helping them with their health problems. But I cant really take the credit. My confession is that Ive never healed anyone of anything. What I do is perform a specific spinal adjustment to remove nerve pressure, and the body responds by healing itself. We get tremendous results. Its a simple as that!

Forty-five million Americans no longer have health insurance, and those who do have found that their benefits have been greatly reduced. Thats where chiropractic comes in. I have a significantly lower fee plan so that more people are able to afford the care they need. An entire week of care in my office costs what you could pay for one visit elsewhere. Another way to savestudies show that chiropractic can double your immune capacity, naturally and without drugs. The immune system fights colds, the flu, and other ailments. So you may not be running off to the doctor as much. Studies show that people actually pay less for their long-term overall health care expenses if they are seeing a chiropractor.

You Benefit from an Amazing Offer-Look, it shouldnt cost you an arm and a leg to correct your health. You are going to write a check to someone for your health care expenses, you may as well write one for a lesser amount for

chiropractic. When you bring in this article (by 10/31/11) you will receive my entire new patient exam for $35. Thats with x-rays, biomechanical exam, history and consultationthe whole ball of wax. This exam could cost you $250 elsewhere. The law says that I must tell YOU THAT YOU OR ANY OTHER PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT HAS THE RIGHT TO REFUSE TO PAY, CANCEL PAYMENT, OR BE REIMBURSED FOR TREATMENT, WHICH IS PERFORMED AS A RESULT OF AND WITHIN 72 HOURS OF RESPONDING TO THE ADVERTISEMENT FOR DISCOUNTED, OR REDUCED FEE FOR SERVICE, EXAMINATION, OR TREATMENT.

Great care at a great feePlease, I hope that theres no misunderstanding about quality of care just because I have a lower exam fee. Youll get great care at a great fee. My qualificationsIm a graduate of Life College and have been practicing for over 10 years. Ive been entrusted to take care of tiny babies to pro athletes that you may know. I am constantly going to seminars and updating my knowledge so I can give my patients the latest information and techniques of my profession. My assistants are Mylene and Johanna really great people. Our office is both friendly and warm and we try our best to make you feel at home. We have a wonderful service, at an exceptional fee.

Our office is called Windmill Health Center and its at 17160 Royal Palm Blvd., Suite 1 in the Windmill Professional Plaza. Our phone number is 954-217-4881. Call Mylene, Johanna or Lindsay for an appointment. We can help you. Thank you.

For more information regarding our services please visit our website www.WindmillHealthCenter.com. If you would like to email us with your questions, you may reach us at [email protected] Rick Behar, D.C.

P.S. I am also offering the second family member for only $27.

P.P.S. Your time is as valuable as mine. Thats why I have a no-wait policy. You will be seen within minutes of your appointment.

P rescription drugs can be lifesavers - helping mil-lions of people live with varying medical conditions from high cholesterol to thyroid problems to liver ailments. They are also used in treatment therapies for patients suffering from cancer and high blood pressure. But there are some very real risks from prescription drugs as well - especially if they are improperly given, if they are not properly tested before being used, or if their manufacturers are careless or deceptive in production.

As a consumer, there are lots of things to watch for when it comes to ensuring that the prescription drugs used by you and members of your family are safe. The FDA maintains a drug recall website where consumers can check to see if a drug has been removed from the market due to defects or a potential harm to patients.
