VistaLink for the Alcatel 5620 Service Aware

Manager (SAM) is a prebuilt integration module

that augments the capabilities of the Alcatel

5620 SAM by providing real-time performance

management and service level assurance across

networks, systems and applications. As a

multivendor, multitechnology ‘manager of

managers’ the combined solution consolidates

accounting and performance statistics from

Alcatel devices managed by the 5620 SAM, as

well as performance of the rest of the network

infrastructure within a single end-to-end view.

The VistaLink communicates with the Alcatel

5620 SAM-O operations support system (OSS)

interface gateway, feeding collected performance

data into the InfoVista server where it is aggre-

gated and analyzed. This information can be

further consolidated and correlated with infor-

mation collected from other InfoVista servers

within the VistaMart data repository. A wide

range of reports can be personalized to multiple

user communities with a VistaPortal. The

integrated solution allows Alcatel 5620 SAM

customers to leverage InfoVista’s full set of

capabilities for service-centric performance

and customer service level agreement (SLA)

reporting, including performance impact

analysis, real-time portal-based views and

historical trend analysis.

OverviewAlcatel 5620 SAMThe Alcatel 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM)

is an open and modular suite of carrier-grade

management applications built from the ground

up for managing Internet protocol (IP), Ethernet

and multiprotocol label switching (MPLS)-based

data networking services. The 5620 SAM-E

module provides element management for the

Alcatel 7750 Service Router (SR), 7450 Ethernet

Services Switch (ESS) as well as Telco’s T5C

Customer Location Equipment. The 5620 SAM-P

and 5620 SAM-A modules respectively support

service provisioning and assurance, for services

such as Ethernet virtual leased line (VLL) and

virtual private network (VPN) service, Internet

enhanced services, IP virtual private remote

network (VPRN) services and triple play broad-

band aggregation services. The SAM-O module

provides an open, extensible markup language

(XML)-based OSS interface.

Integration DescriptionAlcatel 5620 SAM-O Interface ModuleThis module offers an open and program-

mable interface for OSS integration

support. SAM-O is based on XML/simple

object access protocol (SOAP) and Java

Messaging Services (JMS), state-of-the-

art technologies allowing easy integration

in enterprise application frameworks.

With SAM-O, ISV partners and system

integrators are able to use widely

available, off-the-shelf software develop-

ment tools for integrating the 5620 SAM

into their environment. SAM-O offers

full access to all management functionality

supported in the 5620 SAM and is ideal

for automating frequent management

tasks such as:
