To allow greater flexibility, Galileos implant software is now open for the import ofthird-party intraoral surface scan data. Thus, it is possible to plan implanttreatments with surgical guides utilising digital impressions that were created fromintraoral scans or by the digitisation of a physical model on third-party equipment. To import the scan data in sTL format, open the CAD/CAM import dialog in Galileosimplant version 1.9.2.

Before registering the scan data with the X-ray volume, a tooth region must firstbe selected in the dialog window. in general, it is important that depending on thesource of the sTL data, the spatial orientation of the data set must be adjustedbefore import so the data can be correctly registered in Galileos implant. since theintroduction of inLab software version 15, dental technicians have been able toimport, export, scan and design data in an open sTL format.

The CeReC 4.5 software allows scan data to be exported in sTL format. Dentsplysirona is now expanding the functions of the Galileos implant software with thenew import option for intraoral surface scans. As a result, dental practices can takeadvantage of existing digital infrastructure more efficiently to improve profitability.

Practice Management

How Dental PracticesUse Social MediaGrowing your practice and reaching newcustomers in a digital worldWhy dental practices use social media is clear. How they use it is less so. This article is designed to provide asnapshot of social media in dentistry today – the platforms practices use, how they utilise them and thechallenges dental professionals face in maintaining an effective social media presence.

“Social media is essential tobusiness! People love to see theirdental office as normal humans,

not intimidating physicians!”- Respondent #397

Key Finding #1

social Media increased37% in 5 Years

89% of respondents say that their practices now have asocial media presence. 72% of practice websites nowhave social media “follow” buttons for their social sites.

Key Finding #2

social Media is stillLargely the Office

Manager’s JobFor over half of independent practices, it’s either theoffice manager or the dentist who – among all theirother responsibilities – is tasked with the job.

Key Finding #6

Paid Advertising insocial Media

Organic reach for Facebook page posts fell 52% in 2016.Almost 50% of the dental professionals that weresurveyed say their practices are already paying for socialmedia advertising.

Key Finding #7

some People still Don’tGet social Media

One in ten of the dental professionals surveyed work forpractices that do not participate in social media. Thenumber one reason provided was that 'it takes too muchtime'.

Key Finding #3

Facebook DominatesDentistry

Dentistry’s strong focus on Facebook is a smartinvestment of time considering that the averageFacebook user spends 50 minutes a day on the site. 100million hours of videos are watched on Facebook everyday.

Key Finding #5

Biggest Challenges:Content and Converting

Key Finding #4

Dentistry’s ‘Go To’social Media Posts

The majority of dental practices post stories related todentistry. Office news/updates and staff photos alsoranked high among the most popular items practicespost on their social media pages

Knowing what and when to post as well as convertingfollowers and fans into patients remain the biggestchallenges. A strong visual element is a key componentto ensuring that your posts stand out, as well as postson practice culture, new technology and promotions.

ConclusionsThe findings show that in a relatively short period of time social media has been fully embracedby a large number of dental professionals. independent dental practices have made a majoreffort to incorporate social media into their patient acquisition, retention and communicationsefforts. This mirrors the widespread use of social media by consumers.

social media in dental marketing is still relatively new and, as so, there are growing some pains. For example, the responsibility for managing a practice’s social media presence still primarilyfalls on the shoulders of the senior office staff (e.g. office managers, dentists, etc.) – specialisedprofessionals whose skills may be better applied elsewhere. As time goes on, this issue as wellas a variety of other key challenges associated with implementing and executing an effectivesocial media strategy will be ironed out.

Facebook is clearly viewed as the most important social media network in dentistry. Critical asit is to a practice’s marketing strategy it should be remembered that other social mediaplatforms should be paid attention to as consumer preferences are likely to change over time.

Practices also need to be prepared to deal with the declining reach of organic posts in theirsocial media news feeds. A portion of the practice’s marketing budget should be dedicated totargeted ads and boosted posts in order to ensure that its social media message reaches thewidest audience.

Aside from a small percentage of dental professionals who remain skeptical about the benefitsassociated with a social media presence, the majority of respondents surveyed gave us strongreasons to believe that social platforms like instagram, Twitter and especially Facebook will playsignificant roles in practice marketing for years to come.

Product in Focus

Clinical Case DescriptionA 38 year old male patient had the primary complaint of pain when chewing and interproximal foodimpaction after a relapse of teeth movement, post orthodontic treatment 8 years ago. The patient’s medicalhistory did not reveal any systemic diseases. upon intra-oral clinical assessment, findings revealed rotationof the maxillary left premolars and interproximal spacing. intra-oral biting radiographs revealed occlusal-distal (OD) caries of both premolars.

The patient requested a time efficient, durable, aesthetic, and colour stable filling in a single dentaltreatment visit.

Considering the high expectations of the patient and time limitation Celtra® Duo (ZLs) CAD/CAM blockswere selected. With crystallites four to eight times smaller than a lithium disilicate block, Celtra® Duo (ZLs),provided natural opalescence and high light conductivity, including shade adaptation with the remainingnatural teeth, and required minimal polishing effort. it also combined high flexural strength with a high glasscontent, resulting in an impressive strength and beauty profile. One feature that Dr. Al idrissi admired wasbeing able to choose her preferred option of processing.

in this case the wet firing technique was used (mill, stain and glaze, fire, seat). This allowed more processingflexibility to mimic the natural fluorosis the patient had by staining the material using the specific Celtra®Duo (ZLs) staining kit. Another reason this material was chosen was due to its strength and marginalintegrity for long term clinical confidence. Less marginal chipping of restorations was noticed and a highvariety of patient selections, such as patients with a heavy bite or bruxism.

Single visit dentistry usingCeltra® DuoAll-ceramic restorations with CeReC have been tried and tested millions oftimes over. But that is not all CeReC can do. With a wide variety of indicationsand materials, the system offers dentists a comprehensive range of treatmentoptions.

in its 30-year history, CeReC has become a highly flexible system that coversa wide spectrum of indications and enables processing of the latest materials.

Here Dr. Hafsa Al idrissi presents a clinical case showing just how single visitdentistry with CeReC and Celtra® Duo Zirconia-Reinforced Lithium silicate(ZLs) was the perfect choice to meet the high expectations and limitations ofthe patient.

An eight-year old female bottlenose dolphin calledDumisa, had been suffering from general dental abrasionunderwent hours of root canal treatment. The unusualand complex procedure was carried out in Hong Kongby south African veterinary dentist Dr. Cedric Tuttfollowing months of preparation using props toacclimatise Dumisa to the procedure. state-of-the-artendodontic therapeutics were used to treat onedamaged tooth by root canal treatment while up to 18others are in different stages of treatment, all performedwithout anesthesia or restraint of any kind.

For the root canal procedure, preparation, compoundingand filling of the canal, Dr. Tutt used products fromDentsply sirona. He explained: “Dumisa was sufferingfrom general dental abrasion. in the past we would havehad no other choice but to extract them all, we can nowmaintain Dumisa’s teeth by performing root canaltreatment using a specialised endodontic cement thathelps heal the bone surrounding the root.”

Hong Kong’s Ocean Park was the stage of the world’sfirst root canal treatment of this kind performed on adolphin, which necessitated a whole day of patiencefrom a team of dedicated veterinarians and animaltrainers. some of Dumisa’s teeth were worn, exposing

the central, living part of the tooth, the pulp, which hadsubsequently died. Radiographs had also shown signs ofinflammation, a great source of discomfort for her. “Thetraining and veterinary teams of Ocean Park in Hong Kongworked with Dumisa for months to get her used to thedental instruments, encouraged her to keep her mouthopen and enhance her willingness to have her teeth ‘x-rayed’. They used harmless props such as a model of aportable x-ray machine and electric toothbrushes, to helpher appreciate that the operation was safe. This operationcould never have happened without her cooperation,”emphasised Dr. Tutt. Dumisa was left to swim freely in thepool and the treatment was successfully completed instages as Dumisa allowed.

endodontic therapy salvages teeth that have had their pulpirreversibly affected due to exposure to the oral cavity byfracture or caries of the tooth crown. such exposuretypically initially results in pain. This often leads to difficultyin eating and temporary behavioral changes in the animal. The exposure usually results in degeneration of the pulp, eventual abscessation and related lysis of bone at the toothapex. endodontics will not salvage a periodontallycompromised tooth.

in recent years, to address this need, endodontics hasmorphed into a veritable high-tech discipline withindentistry. Here Dentsply sirona endodontics is breakingnew ground and has been a long-standing supplier ofcutting-edge instruments and materials to ensuresuccessful root canal treatments in humans. Theseinstruments and materials can also be used for treatinganimals.

Lunch & Learn: Class IISolution™ for successfulrestoratives outcomes.

Dentsply sirona is proud to introduce the new ‘Lunch & Learn’ eventsin the MeNA region. For most dentists, the workday begins very earlyto accommodate patient schedules and may go on into the lateevening for some cases – and ultimately that leaves little time fortraining. That’s why we decided to organise ‘Lunch & Learn’ events atclinics during lunch-time - a 60 minutes session including presentationand product demonstrations followed by lunch. it’s a convenient andeasy way to connect with dentists and communicate, collaborate andlearn together. The first ‘Lunch & Learn’ event was held in saudi Arabia, focusing on the Class ii procedure.

Class ii procedures account for almost half of all the direct restorationscompleted in one’s practice. Given the frequency of these restorationsand the challenges faced in placing them, the clinician needs to controlas many variables as possible by utilising a comprehensive, unified, all-inclusive system of consumable restorative products to ensure optimalresults for patients as well as the practice’s bottom line.

On the 14th March, we welcomed 11 doctors to our showroom in Riyadhfor an introduction and hands-on session on our Class ii solution™, theindustry’s only comprehensive direct restoration solutions systemswhich covers all aspects of the Class ii procedure. This included anadvanced sectional matrix system, a universal bonding agent, a state-of-the-art curing light, a market-leading bulk fill flowable compositeand a first class finishing system which combines to produce ideal andconsistent outcomes. After discussing the Class ii restorationschallenges, the attendees were able to try and see by themselves howour Class ii solution™ can help them better manage restorativeperformance and give their patients an improved Class ii experience. We closed the event by having a shared lunch. This first successful‘Lunch & Learn’ event is just the beginning of many more to come.

stay tuned!

If you would like to host a 'Lunch & Learn' event in your clinic then pleasecontact your local Dentsply Sirona sales representative.
