Dryers remove moisture or liquid from substances when such

moisture is undesired. The main process involved in thetransformation from wet to dry is evaporation in which a liquid

becomes a gas and diffuses into the atmosphere. In some cases,

sublimation is achieved, and a solid will change state directly

    into a gas.

Food dryer remove moisture from fruits, vegetables, meats and other

edible substances. Dried foods preserve nutrients, color and flavor

while reducing weight and volume, making them easy to pack and

    transport.

    Usually Seen at:

    Food industries

    Application

used by food and beverage companies to create

Fruit leather, beef jerky, powdered juice, vegetables

for dried soup mixes, spices, fruits for breakfast cereals,

    powdered milk and more.

Air dryer are the most common types of industrial dryers. The product to

be dried comes into direct contact with heated air dispensed by the

    machine.

    Usually Seen at:

    Food processing Pharmaceutical

    Paper Pollution control

    Agricultural sectors

    Application:

remove liquids or moisture from bulk solids,

powders, parts and sometimes other liquids

Continuous dryer remove moisture from a constant flow of substances or

items that enter the dryer, are dried and then exit, all without stopping.

    Usually Seen at:

    Agricultural Food processing

    Publishing Apparel

    Lumber industries

    Application:

drying ceramics, grain, cereal, paper, screen-printed

graphics and treated wood, granules, gels, pastes,

flakes, slurries, solids and large items.

Conveyor dyer use a belt to move materials through the dryer at a

continuous feed. Agricultural products are often dried on a belt or

    similar conveyor dryer system.

    Usually Seen at:

    Agricultural Food processing

    Chemical Industries Apparel

    Lumber industries

    Application:

setting wet ink on screen-printed apparel, curing

treated lumber, turning wet paste into dry grains

    and drying paper.

Flash dryer are industrial dryers that dry a substance or material

during exposure to a short burst of high heat. Water sludge is often

dried this way at water treatment plants for the easy removal of

    contaminants.

    Usually Seen at:

    Chemical industries Polymer industries

    Food processing Mineral industries

    Water treatment plants

    Application:

removal of contaminants from water Sludge, removing

of moisture from pastes, gels, powders, cakes, granules,

    flakes and slurries

    11/31

Fluid bed dryers force heated gas through a permeable surface

where it comes into direct contact with a bed of solid materials,

causing the moisture inside them to evaporate.

    Usually Seen at:

    Pharmaceutical Agricultural

    Food industries

Chemical industries for powders and agglomerates

    Application:

used with pesticides, detergents, pigments, milk powder,

    yeast, powdered flavorings and more.

    12/31

Freeze dryers are used to dry heat sensitive materials such as

chemicals and pharmaceuticals in small batches.

    Usually Seen at:

    Pharmaceutical industry Some Museum

    Application:

removes water and bulk while maintaining flavors and

nutritional content; used to dry and preserve artifacts,

manuscripts and animal or floral specimens.

Infrared dryers are used most often for the curing of water-based

inks and coatings found in the painting and the screen-printing

industries. These use infrared radiation to quickly dry or set the

    material.

    Usually Seen at:

    Manufacturing processes Food processing

    Medical industries Pharmaceutical industries.

    Application:

used for paper drying as well as for curing ink,

paint, silicone, foam, adhesives and resin

Rotary/drum dryers can be gas, liquid or solid fuel fired, and pass

material through a heated rotating drum. Sometimes the drums have

multiple chambers that allow a longer pass to get through the drum.

    Usually Seen at:

    Chemical industries Food industries

    Mineral industries

    Application:

    include metallic oxides, powdered detergents,

    insulation materials, metal powders, carbon

    black pigment, and industrial chemicals

  • 8/7/2019 Dryers Misplacido1

    15/31

Spray dryers take a material, such as wet sludge or wet powder, and

spin it centrifugally, then direct a line of spray of the material into a

drying chamber, which rapidly dries the material. This type of dryer

is also called a dispersion dryer.

    Usually Seen at:

    Chemical industries Food industries

    Mineral industries

    Application:

    food flavorings, pigments, industrial chemicals,

    ceramic products, dyestuffs, catalysts, detergents,

    salts and many more

Vacuum rotary dryers are best suited for continuous drying of

temperature sensitive and sugar containing products at low

    temperature under vacuum conditions.

    Usually Seen at:

    Chemical industries Food industries

    Pharmaceutical industries

    Application:

Used to dry malted food, extracts, fruits

    and vegetables, gelatin, pharmaceuticals,

    beverage mix, enzymes and more

  • 8/7/2019 Dryers Misplacido1

    17/31

Agitated thin firm dryers are used for converting concentrated

material to solid/semi solid form. This is designed with vacuum system

without vacuum system. Solvents/water is collected through condenser.

    Usually Seen at:

    Chemical industries Food industries

    Pharmaceutical industries
