“If the medication an athlete is required to take to treat an illness or condition happens to fall under the Prohibited List, a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) may give that athlete the authorization to take the needed medicine.

The purpose of the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE) is to ensure that the process of granting TUEs is harmonized across sports and countries”.

a banned stimulant. Mamabolo could

face a two year ban and be stripped

of his title if found guilty by

an independent tribunal. SAIDS

[6] PSEUDOEPHEDRINEPseudoephedrine is prohibited In-Competition only when it’s concentration in urine is greater than 150 micrograms per millilitre. Refer to section S6 (Stimulants) of the WADA 2013 Prohibited List and the 2013 Monitoring Program.Clarifying information (WADA):

• The established threshold levels may be reached (rarely, but possibly) by some individuals within 6-20 hours of intake of some long-lasting therapeutic formulations.

• Advise athletes to stop taking pills containing pseudoephedrine at least 48 hours before competition. For therapeutic applications during the In-Competition period, consider the use of alternative permitted medications upon previous consultation with a physician, or apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for the use of pseudoephedrine for therapeutic purpose(s).

• The threshold level has been established based on the intake of therapeutic doses of pseudoephedrine, defined as a maximum daily dose of 240mg pseudoephedrine taken either as: i) four (4) daily administrations (one every 4-6 hours) of a 60mg pill (or 2 x 30mg pills), or ii) two (2) daily administrations (one every 12 hours) of a 120mg pill, or iii) one (1) daily administration of a 240mg pill.

• In line with this dosing regimen, the intake, for example, of a single daily dose of 3 x 60mg pills constitutes a supratherapeutic administration that may lead to an Adverse Analytical Finding.

[7] GLYCEROLGlycerol is prohibited as a plasma expander which requires the ingestion of quantities far beyond that which are commonly found in foodstuffs and toiletries. The normal use of foodstuffs and toiletries that contains glycerol (glycerine), will not cause a competitor to test positive.Refer to section S5 (Diuretics and other masking agents) of the WADA 2013 Prohibited List.

[8] NOTES ON SPECIFIC STIMULANTS:• Adrenaline: Local administration (e.g. nasal, ophthalmologic) of adrenaline or co-administration with local anaesthetic agents is not prohibited.

• Cathine (nor-pseudoephedrine): Prohibited when its concentration in urine is greater than 5 micrograms per millilitre.

• Ephedrine & methylephedrine: Each of ephedrine and methylephedrine is prohibited when its concentration in urine is greater than 10 micrograms per millilitre.
