LBHA Trails Report August 2009 Newsletter Dru Barner Equestrian Campground Georgetown, El Dorado County by Robert H. Sydnor, M-AERC, LBHA Trails Committee  For several decades, the members of the Loomis Basin Horsemen's Association have enjoyed camping with our horses at the Drucilla Barner Equestrian Campground, located several miles east of Georgetown in El Dorado County. The equestrian camp was constructed by joint efforts of the El Dorado Equestrian Trails Foundation, the Robie Foundation, and the U.S. Forest Service. For detailed information, telephone the Georgetown Ranger District at 530‐333‐4312. For Dru Barner Equestrian Camp, the U.S. Forest Service website is: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado/documents/rogs/rog_gtn_drubarner.pdf Driving directions: From Cool, take Highway 193 to Georgetown, then continue on Wentworth Springs Road for about 6 miles. Look for the sign (shown above right) for the Bottlehill Bypass. There is a good map on the USFS website. Description: Within Dru Barner Equestrian Campground are 47 camping sites in a beautiful forest of second‐growth pine, cedar and fir trees. There is a $8.00 fee overnight fee, and a $3.00 day‐use fee; pay in cash currency at the green vertical pipe‐vault at the entrance station. There are no reservations, except that on Memorial Day holiday weekend and the first weekend of July, the entire camp is booked by equestrian organizations (EDETF and AERC). Fifteen camp sites have a long spur length of ±80 to 100 feet. There is a group kitchen area on the south side with grills and picnic tables. There are no showers, no trailer hook‐ups, no cell‐phone coverage, and there is no sewage dump station. There are four water faucets, but these are for horsewater only, and not for human consumption. Bring your own water for drinking and cooking. The campground has three vault toilets. On a busy holiday weekend, bring an extra roll of toilet paper in case supplies run out. Dogs are allowed, but must be leashed at all times. The camp is about 3,200 feet elevation, so it is often much cooler that the lowland areas (such as Loomis Basin) and this makes it an attractive destination to escape the heat of summer. The access roads are not plowed‐out in the wintertime.
