How To Use Your Droptine Riflescope

Eyepiece FocusingThe eyepiece can be focused so that thereticle appears sharp and black. Followthis procedure to quickly adjust thefocus:

1. Point the scope at the sky or a plainwall and take a quick glance throughthe scope. If the reticle appears sharpand black, no further adjustment isnecessary.

2. If the reticle does not appear sharp andblack, take quick glances through thescope while rotating the focus ringuntil the reticle pattern is sharp andblack.

NOTE: Do not look through the eyepieceas you turn the focus ring. Your eyes willadjust to the out-of-focus condition.

Parallax/Focus Adjustment– Not available on all models –

Parallax is the apparent movement of thereticle in relation to the target when theeye is not directly in line behind thecenter of the scope. Images from differentdistances focus in front of or behind thescope’s reticle. Parallax is more noticeablewith higher magnification scopes.

Parallax is adjusted by rotating the parallaxadjustment ring located on the objectivebell. When the scope is set parallax-freefor the distance you are viewing, youshould be able to move your head side-to-side or up and down without seeingthe reticle move appreciably in relationto the target.

Windage/Elevation Adjustment

The low profile adjustment knobs featurea finger adjustment for both windage andelevation. Once you have successfullyzeroed your scope, you can reset the zeroon your dials with these simple steps:

1) With turret caps removed, grip knobtop firmly to keep knob from turning.

2) Put pen or other small object into thesmall hole located on the dial.

3) Keeping firm grip on the knob, use thepen to turn the dial back to zero, liningup the number zero with the white indi-cator dot. Only the numbered dialshould move – do not allow the entireknob to move or else you will alter yourwindage and elevation zero settings.

NOTE: You do not have to reset the zeroon your dials for your scope to functionproperly. Doing so can give you peace ofmind that your zero is set, plus you caneasily confirm if it has moved at any time, but this step is optional.

Mounting the ScopeDroptine riflescopes require 1” rings. Werecommend using high-quality rings andbases, like Burris Zee Rings or SignatureRings and Trumount Universal or XTBbases. Quality components ensure thatyour scope will remain safely and securelymounted, and will provide the maximumaccuracy. Use care when mounting yourscope as damage can be caused byimproper mounting.

Care & MaintenanceDroptine riflescopes are fully waterproofand fogproof. In the event that the lensesare subjected to dust, dirt or mud, followthese steps to clean and protect the lenssurface. Failure to remove grit before finalcleaning is sure to damage lens coatings.

Coarse dirt/debris must be removed fromthe lens surface. The most convenient wayto clean a lens surface is to use a Lens Pen.Position the scope so particles will fallaway from the lens, and then use the LensPen or soft brush to gently whisk awaythe debris while blowing on the lens todislodge the particles. For heavy dirt, likedried mud, use a spray of clean water orlens cleaning fluid to remove the dirt.

Your Burris riflescope will provide areliable performance given reasonablecare and treatment. All moving assemblies arepermanently lubricated. Only occasionalcleaning of the outside of the scope andthe exterior lenses is required. Neverdisassemble your scope. Disassembly byanyone other than our factory will voidthe warranty. If you have any otherproblems with your riflescope, contactBurris Customer Service.

Droptine Riflescope Reticles

Ballistic PlexThe Ballistic Plex reticle is a copyrightedBurris design on the lower verticalcrosshair that compensates for bulletdrop. The Ballistic Plex reticle is set toprovide precise aiming from 100 yards to500 yards for many of the most commonhunting cartridges. Examples of the actualbullet path for many of the most popularcartridges are available for download onour website at www.burrisoptics.com.

The Ballistic Plex reticle is extremely usefulregardless of the cartridge you choose toshoot. Some Droptine models are configuredfor a specific load, such as .22 LR, Sabot orSlug Gun loads, but each ballistic linerepresents some exact yardage forwhatever cartridge you shoot. It only takesa simple trip to a long-distance shootingrange to make your own yardage chart tocorrespond to each ballistic line for yourcartridge.

Simple to Use1. Sight-in exactly at 100 yards or 200 yardsdepending on your cartridge and bulletselection.

2. Set your scope to the highest magnification.

3. Determine the bullet path of yourcartridge at the climatic conditions youwill be shooting. We highly recommendactual firing at each 100-yard incrementfor best accuracy. Record the results ofyour rifle/ cartridge combination forfuture reference.

4. Determine the distance to your targetand select the corresponding ballisticline. Slight holdover or under may benecessary to handle in-between yardages.

Practice Makes PerfectThe Ballistic Plex is much more accuratethan guessing holdover and faster andmore reassuring to most shooters thanusing target-type adjustments. The natureof ballistics is such that everything istheoretical and if any one of the variableschange (altitude, temperature, barometricpressure, humidity, bullet design, barrellength, chamber fit, seating depth, etc.)so does the ballistic performance. Formaximum accuracy, practice at longranges under similar conditions to thosewhich you will experience in the field.

Technical TipFor maximum accuracy at long ranges, instead of sighting in at 100 yards usingthe center of the reticle, sight in at a longerrange such as 400 yards using the 400-yardballistic line. This will decrease the amountof long-range error that can occur undervarious environmental conditions, or whenslightly under estimating point-of-impactat shorter ranges.

Shoot ResponsiblyLong-range shooting is extremelychallenging and can be very rewarding. But along with it comes tremendousresponsibility, especially when hunting. To ensure you take ethical shots atlonger ranges, it is essential to know theyardage to an animal and your windconditions. For these reasons, we stronglyencourage that you practice to determineyour own shooting capabilities and donot shoot beyond them in the field.
