Seven years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. It was really hard to regulate my sugars and keep them down and I watched my food intake but eventually had to start taking medication and insulin. I also suffered from depression and was not feeling good about my health and well-being. In 2011 I started working at ACH and joined the gym. Staying motivated was really hard at first but my friend, Amy, who attended twice a day would always call if I missed and say “Where were you?” I felt happier and energized taking Yoga, Zumba, Muscles Works, and Crosstraining. My sugars actually dropped to being too low with the afternoon exercise so I revamped my eating habits. The instructors were absolutely amazing. Their expertise and passion for their work really showed. They adapted exercises according to the age groups and fitness levels

Celebrating Successand they “gently” encouraged us to do one more or hold for a few more seconds. There were always lots of smiles and and few laughs in the classes. Over time my A1c sugars gradually dropped from 14 to 12 to 9 and they are now in 6-7 point range. My personal healthcare team is very pleased with my progress and so am I! In 2013, after a leave for six months to take care of my mom, I returned to work and the gym. I met Zeba, the Workplace Wellness Manager who is very welcoming, helpful and encouraging. I am still working on getting back on track but I find the days when I go to the gym, I feel a lot better physically and mentally.

“When I go to the gym I feel a lot better physically and mentally.”
