BEFORE START DRIVING-FIRST ENSURE FOLLOWING

Make sure you know driving Driving license for respective vehicle (Light vehicle,

In 2 seconds you can fasten you seat belt for your protection from shocks and jerks while or accidents

In less than 2 seconds you can have fracture or break in your neck & back bone, head or face injury, ribs fracture or break or sudden movement out side of the vehicle from the wind screen to the roads where you can have crushed with other vehicles.

CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS

Over Speeding Over speeding is the major cause of fatal accidents, cause of 40%

accidents is speed Speed limits should be followed as:

Vehicle Type Max. Speed Km/h(in clear weather conditions)

Light vehicles within urban zones (Cities) 50

Light vehicles in rural roads (outside cities) 120

Heavy trucks within urban zones (Cities) 30

Heavy trucks in rural roads (outside cities) 70

Rain In heavy rain try to avoid driving, reduce the speed of the vehicle and turn on the hazard light

Fog Your speed must not exceed 30 Km/h, put hazard light on, don’t overtake and change the lane.

Storm Park your vehicle on the safe site, if you are on road keep your speed 30 Km/h, keep hazard lights on. Do not stay or park vehicle near or under electric poles, overhead electrical cables or tree.

Congestion Keep in one lane, keep patience, keep speed limit as others vehicle moving around.

Maintenance work Keep your speed low and observe the diversions, directions for maintenance, keep the distance from other vehicles and barriers for diversions.

Poor visibility at night Keep your speed low, give proper indication if changing lane, keep all the glasses clear, keep vehicle lights on.

CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS

Use of mobile phones/ eating, drinking or smoking

Never use mobile phones, calling or messaging while driving. Mobile phone disturb the focus of the driver which is the cause of accidents

Always smoke outside of the vehicle, smoking is not allowed while driving.

Do not eat or drink while driving, park the vehicle on safe site then eat or drink.

Driving within Urban Areas (Cities, residential areas)

Driver should observe the following:

1. Continuous attention to vehicle approaching from side roads

2. Patience in slow traffic

3. Alert to pedestrians specially in the areas of school, mosques and hospitals

4. Plan ahead for your location before moving and choose the correct road

5. Alert to any unexpected situation that my occur while driving

6. Minimize changing overtaking as much as possible

7. Avoid being disturbed while driving

8. Comply with the specified speed limit

9. Give the way to emergency vehicles

10. Always give indicator when changing lane or roads

Driving on highway

Must give indicator for all your actions Match your speed gradually with highway speed Very carefully come to the highway lanes and move

safely with the traffic Start slow down and give indicator while entering the

exit lane to take the exit from the highway

Driving during Night

Poor vision at night need slow speed also full attention of the driver to the bright lights temporarily affect your vision. Avoid looking directly to those lights.

Use the low beam headlights while driving Switch on your vehicle lights 30 min. before sunset and till

30 min. after sunrise. Park your vehicle by the side of the road and take rest

when you feel tired or sleepy. Never use sun glasses at night Always use the headlights Your driving speed should be less than the specified speed

limit

Overtaking and changing Lanes

Driver must maintain the lane while driving if he wants to change the lane proper indication must be given to the others before changing lane.

Ensure a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle you want to pass.

Ensure the is no other vehicles in the lane you want to move to.

Check the traffic behind your vehicle (use the mirror) Give indicator to right or left as you want to move Ensure there is no other vehicles in the blind areas

around your vehicles, by looking around and quickly continue back to your normal position.

TRAFFIC RULES Never take over or pass the vehicle if

Visibility is poor When traffic is coming from opposite direction There is intersections, railroads, bridges and pedestrians

crossings There are curves, hilly areas, slopes, squares and slippery roads the vehicle you want to pass is moving faster than your vehicle Vehicle behind you start passing or over taking Vehicle you want to pass already started to pass the vehicle

RED SIGNAL

Red signal means STOP before the boundary marked on the road. Its mandatory to stop.

YELLOW SIGNAL

Only you can pass carefully while observing the other vehicles on your back and ahead only during the short time of changing signal to red.

GREEN SIGNAL

Safe to pass, but only in the allowed directions
