EVENT OVERVIEWThe only conference dedicated to driving excellence in engineering, delivery and maintenance of bridges and roads in the UAE, IQPC is delighted to announce the Bridge and Road Engineering and Maintenance UAE conference in association with the International Road Federation (Geneva).

Urban infrastructure engineering has become a more complex discipline in the UAE, with ministries and governments mandating a new vision. The priority focuses on longevity and sustainability. As a result, road safety, asset management and maintenance relating to environmental and socio-economic issues are as important as design and construction.

In response to these changes the conference will emphasise on the importance of these key concerns:

■ How to implement asset management systems in response to the region’s critical need ■ How best to maintain failing bridge and road assets ■ How to design and build durable and sustainable assets in line with the region’s vision

The conference aims to help the emirates of the UAE to maintain and improve their road and bridge infrastructure to ensure they operate efficiently, safely, and with minimal impact to the environment, in accordance with new mandates such as the DoT’s Surface Transport Master Plan.

In the past, the conference has hosted senior government representatives from the emirates including the Department of Transport, Al Ain Municipality as well as the pioneering developers, contractors and consultants from around the UAE.

The Bridge and Road Engineering and Maintenance UAE conference will bring together leading bridge and road engineers and experts from government, project owners, consultants and contractors along with equipment suppliers and technology providers to share their knowledge and network to drive better business in the region. Be a part of these important discussions and learning opportunities in Abu Dhabi, from the 22-24 May 2016.

IQPC provides business executives around the world with tailored practical conferences, large-scale events, topical seminars and training programmes, keeping them up-to-date with industry trends, technological developments and the regulatory landscape. IQPC conferences are market leading “must attend” events for their respective industries. IQPC produces more than 1,700 events annually around the world, and continues to grow. Founded in 1973, IQPC now has offices in major cities across six continents including: Bengaluru, Berlin, Dubai, London, New York, Singapore, Sydney, Tampa, and Toronto. IQPC leverages a global research base of best practices to produce an unrivalled portfolio of conferences. www.iqpc.ae

Dear Colleague,

We have reached a critical time for urban transport infrastructure in the region. For the first time in the history of the UAE the infrastructure is becoming old and reaching the end of its original specifications. For many this challenge has arrived too soon, structures are failing prematurely and the solutions are not yet ready to cope with this major issue. It is therefore up to us to reevaluate the construction and maintenance of roads and related structures.

The UAE has envisioned a new way of developing and carrying out infrastructure. They have shifted their focus on foresight to ensure a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable urban structure, which will enable them to achieve a successful urban revolution by 2030.

To achieve this, it is vital that strong foundations are in place in terms of design, contracting, implementation, supervision, maintenance and management of current assets - and more importantly for new projects - to avoid past mistakes.

Join us at the Bridge and Road Engineering and Maintenance UAE conference to discuss these developments and find ways to renovate and innovate the UAE’s road and bridge network.

I look forward to welcoming you in Abu Dhabi in May.

Yours faithfully,

Harley Watson Project Director – Bridge and Road Engineering and MaintenanceIQPC Middle East

IQPC’s workshops are unique opportunities to spend valuable time with industry experts. These interactive sessions are extended to ensure that you get to the heart of the conference’s most critical issues and uncover practical solutions you can apply in your own company. When designing our workshops, we create a balance between theory and practice in order to provide you with practical takeaways that can be adapted for your organisation. In addition, there is an opportunity for you to network with peers from similar organisations to build your network for future career opportunities and broaden your industry perspective and exposure.

ROAD SAFETY INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT TOOLS AND METHODS

How do we ensure that the safety of road infrastructure is managed as a primary function of road authorities? There are a variety of infrastructure safety management tools and methodologies that have been developed to help evaluate, prioritise and monitor road infrastructure safety performance, however there are limited guidelines available that describe how and when each tool should be used in order to support a robust road safety infrastructure management system. Organised be the International Road Federation (IRF), this workshop will look into the road safety management activities that are needed to deliver the recommendations of the Action Plan of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety and the tools/methodologies that can be used to do so.The road safety management activities that will be explored can be applied across all new or existing road types (urban, semi-urban and rural) and to ensure the safety of all road user groups. Some of the issues the workshop will look into:

■ Blackspot analysis and treatment ■ Maintenance inspections ■ Network/Area analysis and treatment ■ Road safety assessment ■ Road safety audit ■ Road safety impact assessment ■ Road safety inspection ■ Route/Corridor analysis and treatment ■ Star Rating (iRAP) ■ Work zone safety

An IRF certificate will be delivered to the participants attending the workshop.Provide your IRF membership number when booking to receive a 20% discount off the standard priceThis workshop will be an opportunity to investigate the role of the road engineer and road authority towards safety.
