Page 2: Drinks List - The Chester Fields · orange juice served sophisticated in a flute or ... Drinks List Borgo Molino Prosecco, ... on the list that us ‘Pommies’ can pronounce without

White WinesCrisp, Dry & Refreshing (like Kris, with a haircut!)Landings Colombard, (Chardonnay), Australia £21.00 What do you mean ABC (Anything But Chardonnay)? It’s not the 80’s you know! For the healthy eater (fish & salads) or the unhealthy drinker (Beer & Wine)!!! Medium dry and well balanced.

Esencia de Fontana, (Verdejo), Spain £20.00 This is a great little discovery and definitely an up and coming varietal from the Spaniards. Lovely rich flavours and good length. Imagine sitting on a hay bale with a pepper pot and a handful of fennel (everyone does that at some stage of their life!)

Aristocratico, (Pinot Grigio), Italy £28.00 Wikipedia – “Any class or group considered to be superior, as through education, ability, wealth, social prestige or in this case alcohol preference!”. Dry with notes of almond and honey.

Red WinesWarm & Spicy (like Nuno, “easy peasy!”)The Landings, (Shiraz/Cabernet), Australia £21.00 A great affordable example of the Ozzies mixing together their best grapes. Soft bramble fruit character and a lightly spiced finish makes this a smooth easy-drinking red.

Chakana Reserve (Malbec), Argentina £31.50 This is a wine that all the team love to drink when they can afford it! Aromas of plum, spices and chocolate. Lovely elevated fruit tones with balanced tannins.

Ederra Rioja Reserva, Spain £28.00 There’s nothing this wine doesn’t work with except an English breakfast! Red and dark fruits are fresh with cinnamon spice and meaty notes of liquorice and pepper.

Big Squeeze (Shiraz), Australia £24.50 This wine sells for all the wrong and right reasons. It has a ridiculous name but it’s the only wine on the list that us ‘Pommies’ can pronounce without looking like a dingo! The other is because it’s a great wine. Smooth and spicey and adventurously easy to drink with some soft oak tannins.

Smooth & Earthy(Like Mark, who else?!!)

The Pitmaster, (Shiraz/Viognier), Australia £24.00If the cow was reborn as a bottle of wine this is the one it would be. Perfect for steaks and burgers. Flavours of plums and blackberries and the viognier brings out the floral and succulent finish.

Chateauneuf du Pape, (Grenache), France £45.00A timeless full bodied classic that our parents used to drink on special occasions. This Rhone wine is made predominantly from Grenache grapes, giving intense, robust, spicy flavours and a long peppery finish.

Chianto Castello Querceto, (Sangiovese), Italy £28.00 “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice glass of Chianti” – Hannibal Lecter! I’m sure this was the one he was talking about. Sadly no fava beans on the menu today! Medium bodied with flavours of every red and purple fruit. Fine and delicate tannins.

Light & Fruity(Like Eddie. The whippet who bats way above his average!)

Drouet Privilege, (Merlot), France £23.00A wonderful piece of French artistry, firm but fair. It’s like being in a nightclub at 3 in the morning and someone smacks you in the face with a tree of plums (marginally exaggerated!!!).

Tanguero (Malbec), Argentina £23.00Juicy and moreish! The true home of the Malbec. Like the wine above but his friends armed with a bush of blackberries.

Cosmina, (Pinot Noir), Romania £21.00If BMW own Skoda then why pay top dollar for a BMW. Romania has a better wine climate than France so we reap the rewards with this gem and the Skoda price tag reflects this! Soft and silky with red berry fruit flavours & aromas , flecked with oak spice.

Drouhin Brouilly, (Beaujolais), France £35.00A light Beaujolais wine that’s grapes grow on what appears to be a volcano. I’d start drinking at lunchtime and let it erupt into the early hours! This wine is a melting pot of herbs, sweet fruits and light, smoky minerals.

Tyrells Old Winery (Pinot Noir), Australia £29.00This wine is as easy drinking as a pint of water on a hangover! Cherry and strawberry aromas. Soft with rich sweet fruit on a palate.

Full Bodied & Heavy(Like Alina above the waist!!!)

Chateau Musar, (Cabernet Sauvignon), Lebanon £58.00Lebanon is famous for 4 things: The home of the Garden of Eden, war torn Beirut, their love of partying and where wine was invented. I was lucky enough to visit here and this is my favourite wine in the world. In true Lebanese style you can expect it to be highly aromatic and rich.

Ripasso, (Valpolicello), Italy £29.00Nicknamed as ‘Baby Amarone’. Why pay up to £100 for Amarone when you can have this beauty. Aged in Amarone barrels and as rich and heavy without the hangover.

Cotes du Rhone Noble Dame Treilles, (Grenache/Syrah), France £24.00Imagine sitting by the Rhone eating cherry bakewell with raspberry sorbet. Nice and rich and always looks classy when you see it on a dining table!

Fine & Dandy(Like Emma when she’s not hungover!)Château Pichon Lalande 1983, (Bordeaux blend), France £275.00 Aromas of tobacco, herbs, cassis and forest truffles, this stunning wine is perfect to drink right now.

Château Pavilion Rouge Margaux 1996, (Bordeaux blend), France £225.00 Voted the best wine of its vintage. Very masculine and full bodied with a palate of dark fruits. This is without a doubt the biggest bargain on our wine list. If nobody wants this then I’m having it!

Château Leoville Cases 2000, (Bordeaux blend), France £350.00 From one of the oldest wineries in the region. Packed full of fruit and heavy tannins. An example of first growth quality made in the perfect year.

Vega Sicilia Unico 1998, (Tempronillo), Spain £280.00 Anything the French can do the Spanish can do! Aromas of dried fruit, tobacco, spices and leather with a flavour of cherries, cracked spices and roasted plums.

Fruity and Aromatic(Like Katie, when she’s single!)

Drouet Privelage, (Sauvignon Blanc), France £23.00 Softer than most but richly flavoured. Outrageously good value. Crisp aromas of citrus and gooseberry with a very fresh and fruity flavour and delicate finish.

Torres San Valentin, (Parallada), Spain £24.00For those with a sweeter tooth. Created by Miguel Torres as a gift to his wife on Valentines day (He did forget her birthday though!). Like his wife, voluptuous and slightly sweet on the palate!

Gavi Gigi Rosso, (Cortese), Italy £28.00 One of the Italians best. This wine knocked our socks off at a recent wine tasting. Medium dry with floral notes, melon, lemon and apple with a touch of hazelnut. So good with fish that we believe this may have been grown by a school of Sea bass!

Thorne-Clarke Mount Crawford, (Chardonnay), Australia £30.00A medium bodied wine with good length of citrus fruits. The nose displays some complexity with citrus and stoned fruits complimented by subtle barrel characteristics...blah blah blah. In English? It’s excellent!!!

Chablis, (Chardonnay), France £32.00 Chardonnay at its best. ( I bet you didn’t know that!) Clean citrus nose with a hint of apple and fresh fruit flavours. Every wine list has to have a Chablis.

Pouilly Fuisse, (Chardonnay), France £37.00Dry, pale, fresh and delicate Burgundy, lightly oaked. An extremely popular wine during the 80’s. Wine connoisseurs swiped this off the shelves and have hidden them away in their wine cellars to drink around about now!

Sancerre (Sauvignon Blanc), France £38.00This is another example of a timeless classic. Nice and rich with good length and flavours of peach white flowers, gooseberry and citrus.

Chablis Premier Cru “Vau Ligenau” Geoffrey (Chardonnay), France £47.00Pure class! 100% unoaked chardonnay with a concentrated flavour of stone fruits and citrus.

Perfumey & Minerally (Like Sian, except when she’s grumpy!)Picpoul de Pinet Osmarine, France £25.00A very light wine from Languedoc, one of the finest regions of France. Trendy in London! Lemons, apples and spring blossom. The picpoul appellation is gaining huge popularity. You should give it a try.

Dr Looson Riesling, Germany £27.00 Forget all your preconceptions about German wine, this is a perfect example of what the Germans made famous in the 80’s and 90’s. Great with fish or anything lightly spiced.

Terrassen Gruner Veltliner, Austria £31.00 This wine is very close to our hearts. Gruner veltliner is the most popular grape in Austria and their wines should never be under estimated. As a big wine drinking country with not a huge production, they keep the best for themselves. This one they let slip out so they can prove to the world that Chernobyl is long gone. Easy drinking with barely any acidity.
