Drinking Water & Wastewater Training Coalition Calendar

WVRWA Training News at www.wvrwa.org 2011 marks the eighth year for the publication of an annual pictorial calendar listing each WVRWA water and wastewater training session for January through December. Regular updates about the status of WVRWA training classes can be found on our website at www.wvrwa.org. A link located on the entrance page guides visitors to the WVRWA Training Schedules page where visitors can check on the status of any class. Pre-registration is be-ing requested for all WVRWA classes.

Additional copies of this calendar can be downloaded in Adobe PDF format from the Training News web page. The website also includes a form for online registration. Registration can also be ac-complished by calling the WVRWA office at 1-800-339-4513 or by using the form provided with this calendar. Duplication of this form is encouraged. Training Program Profiles Hours for Education and Learning Program

Mary Hutson is the training specialist for WVRWAs Hours for Education and Learning Program (HELP). The HELP Pro-gram is funded in part under an agreement with the West Vir-ginia Department of Health & Human Resources, Bureau for Public Health, Office of Environmental Health Services. Wastewater Training Program For the past nine years, WVRWA has been providing out-standing classroom training for West Virginias wastewater professionals at convenient locations in each region of the state. EPA Training Program The EPA Training and Technical Assistance Program is WVRWAs original flagship training program for water opera-tors. It offers a wide variety of drinking water training ses-sions at convenient locations across the state. EPA classes are listed in blue type on this calendar. OEHS Training News at www.wvdhhr.org/oehs/eed The Certification and Training (C&T) Program of OEHS oversees the certification of public water system operators, wastewater treatment works operators, backflow prevention assembly inspectors/testers, water well drillers and pump in-stallers in West Virginia. C&T also provides the training and testing for monitoring well drillers in cooperation with the WV Department of Environmental Protection. The WV certification requirements for these professionals are based on public health protection. C&T continues to issue photo identification cards for certification. All certified individuals are encouraged to choose the nearest location and have a photo taken as soon as possible. OEHS recently developed the WV Basics and Advanced electronic courses for water operator continuing education hours. A total of 19.5 CEHs for water operators are available through these courses available on CDROM by request and online at www.wvdhhr.org/oehs/eed/swap/training&certification/online_training.asp OEHS is also reviewing and drafting proposed revisions to both 64CSR4 Public Water Systems Operator Regulations (2007) and 64CSR5 Wastewater Treatment Works and Operators (1995). WVETC Training News at www.wvetc.org The West Virginia Environmental Training Center was established in 1983 under the administration of the West Vir-ginia Department of Education. Federal grant funds were obtained from the USEPA to construct and equip the facility for the purpose of providing training to wastewater and water plant operators. Continued operation is overseen by the Department of Education through Regional Education Service Agency The West Virginia Environmental Training Center provides training and technical assistance to wastewater and water professionals statewide. Operators, managers, inspectors, and technicians attend both certification courses and continu-ing education workshops offered throughout the year. About 75 programs per year are delivered to approximately 1,200 participants. Water and wastewater operator certification courses are offered at many levels, usually twice a year. A wide range of continuing education workshops and seminars are delivered each year which range in length from one to four days. These include process control, troubleshooting, maintenance, regulations, and management topics. Semi-nars of this kind are offered once or twice a year depending on demand. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. STUDENTS ARE REGISTERED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED PAID BASIS. The ETC reserves the right to cancel any program if not enough registrations are received. 1D Water (EW-102F application): Currently working in a PWS (3.29&7.2) 8th grade education (6.2.a/Table 64-4A) 1 day WVBPH course 70 or better on 1D exam (6.6)

Water Operator-in-Training (OIT) (EW-102E application): Currently working in a PWS (3.29&7.2) High school diploma or GED (6.2.a/Table64-4A). May be waived with documentation of 16 and at

least a 2.0 GPA and completion on 6th grade OR enrolled in Adult Learning Program actively pursuing GED (6.2a/Table 64-4A).

Water Distribution (WD) (EW-102C application): Currently working in a PWS (3.29&7.2) High school diploma or GED (6.2.a/Table64-4A). WVBPH WD course 70 or better on WD exam 1,000 hours (~6 months full-time) certified experience (3.18) at a WD or higher PWS documented

(Table 64-4A).

Class I Water (EW-102C application): Currently working in a PWS (3.29&7.2) High school diploma or GED (6.2.a/Table64-4A). WVBPH Class I course 70 or better on Class I exam 2,000 hours (~1 year full-time) certified experience (3.18) at a PWS documented.

Class II Water (EW-102C application): Currently working in a PWS (3.29&7.2) High school diploma or GED (6.2.a/Table64-4A). WVBPH Class II course 70 or better on Class II exam 6,000 hours (~3 years full-time) certified experience (3.18) at a PWS with 2,000 of those at a Class

II or higher PWS documented and 1,000 hours experience at surface source water PWS or approved alternative (Sacramento Courses Volume I&II).

Class III Water (EW-102C application): Currently working in a PWS (3.29&7.2) High school diploma or GED (6.2.a/Table64-4A). 90 CEUs (6.2.a/Table64-4A). May substitute up to 2 years experience for required education

(6.3.a). 70 or better on Class III exam 10,000 hours (~5 years full-time) certified experience (3.18) at a PWS with 2,000 of those at a

Class II or higher PWS documented.

Class IV Water (EW-102C application): Currently working in a PWS (3.29&7.2) High school diploma or GED (6.2.a/Table64-4A). 180 CEUs (6.2.a/Table64-4A). May substitute up to 2 years experience for required education

(6.3.a). 70 or better on Class IV exam 12,000 hours (~6 years full-time) certified experience (3.18) at a PWS with 2,000 of those at a

Class III or higher PWS documented.

IS Wastewater (ES-53 application): Currently working in a WWTW (6.3) 6th grade education (7.1.2) 70 or better on IS exam (6.6) 24 hour course or 500 hours onsite operating experience at IS WWTW. (6.8.1&2)

Wastewater Operator-in-Training (OIT) (ES-51 application):

Currently working in a WWTW (6.3) High school diploma or GED (7.1.1)

Class I Wastewater (ES-53 application):

Currently working in a WWTW (6.3) High school diploma or GED (7.1.3) 70 or better on Class I exam (6.6) 1 year full-time on-site experience (2,000 hours) as an OIT (7.3.3) Documentation of above experience at WWTW from Chief Operator. OIT application (ES-51)

is required within 30 days hire. If received after, use date of OIT certificate for experience basis start (6.1).

Class II Wastewater (ES-53 application):

Currently working in a WWTW (6.3) High school diploma or GED (7.1.4) 70 or better on Class II exam (6.6) 3 year full-time on-site experience (6,000 hours) at a Class I or higher WWTW documented

(7.3.4).

Class III Wastewater (ES-53 application): Currently working in a WWTW (6.3) High school diploma or GED (7.1.1) 2 years of college education or equivalent (7.1.5). May substitute 2 years of college with 2

years of experience (7.2.1). 70 or better on Class III/IV exam 5 year full-time on-site experience (10,000 hours), with at least 2 years at a Class II or higher

WWTW documented (7.3.5).

Class IV WW (ES-53 application): Currently working in a WWTW (6.3) High school diploma or GED (7.1.1) 4 years of college education or equivalent (7.1.6). May substitute 2 years of college with 2

years of experience (7.2.1). Management class approved by OEHS (7.1.6) 70 or better on Class III/IV exam 6 year full-time on-site (12,000 hours) experience, with at least 3 years at a Class II and 3 years

at a Class III WWTW documented (7.3.6). Continuing Education Hours, Continuing Education Units and Training Credits:

1 TC = 6 CEHs 1 CEU = 10 CEHs 1 college semester credit hour = 1.5 CEU
