Select either a 6mm or 8mm PVC cutting wheel. The cutting wheel is considered to be a consumable item due to the cutting edge coming into contact with with rubble and debris on breakthrough. Therefore, we rec-ommend that spares are purchased when ordering the first PVC casing cutter.6mm blades require more precision as they have a tendency to break due to the thinner construction while the 8mm blades are more robust.

The PVC Casing Cutters are manually operated devices for internally cutting PVC bore casings with wall thicknesses that are less than 9mm. Typically these devices are used in the rehabilitation of drilling sites where casings protruding above the ground are to be cut off below ground level before being plugged. The two main features of the devices are the Cutting Head Assembly and the combined Handle Guide and Depth Stop Assembly. They are available in sizes to internally cut the following range of casings which are used in exploration drilling:

These hole savers are used to prevent loose dirt and small animals (or any other foreign matter) from falling back into the hole. They also assist in loading holes and act as a visual warning for drilled holes. They are blow moulded from polypropylene.

Muds

The funnel viscosity test can indicate changes in fluid properties, with measurements taken and recorded regularly. The marsh funnel is a simple device routinely used to check fluid viscosity. The marsh funnel is conical in shape; 152mm in diameter at the top and 305mm long with the capacity of 1500ml. A 12 mesh screen covers half of the top designed to remove foreign matter and drill cuttings from the fluid. The fluid runs through a fixed orifice at the bottom of the funnel and collected in the mud jug. The funnel is molded from a tough, durable plastic that resists breaking or cracking. A brass orifice assures consistency in all readings.

The density or weight of a given volume of liquid is determined by using a mud balance. The balance is constructed so that the fixed volume cup at one end of the beam is balanced by a fixed counterweight at the opposite end, with a sliding weight rider free to move along the graduated scale. A level bubble mounted on the beam indicates when the system is in balance.

Procedure:1. Dry the sample at 110°C for a period of 24 hours ± 4

hours. This will remove any trapped moisture from the interior of the sample and ensure that a true dry bulk density is achieved. After drying, allow the samples to return to room temperature prior to testing.

2. Determine the dry weight of the sample and record this weight as W.

3. Fill the water tub and set up the scale to be bottom loading. The water level in the tub should be deep enough to fully cover the sample in the basket. Allow the water to come to room temperature and then check that the water is at 20-23°C and at a specific gravity of approximately 1.

4. Attach the sample basket to the bottom of the scale as shown in the diagram below. Make sure to tare the scale out prior to starting testing.

5. Place the sample into the basket and record the weight as the suspended weight (S).

6. Calculate the volume (V) as the difference between the original dry weight (W) and the suspended weight, S.

7. Calculate the bulk density by dividing the dry weight (W) by the volume (V).
