See Franschhoek by tramOne of SouthAfrica’s leadingwine pro-ducing regions, aswell as the country’spremierculinarydestination, theFran-schhoek Wine Valley, has once againevery reason to raise a glass with thelaunch of the FranschhoekWine Tram.
Passengers aboard the hop-on, hop-offtour will experience a unique and leisurelyway to see the Franschhoek Valley as theyjourney through rolling vineyards in anopen-side tram. The tram will stop at someof South Africa’s oldest and most distin-guished wine estates.
A combination of tram and tram-bustransports passengers around a loop ofstops, allowing them to hop off at each stop
and experience the activities on offer – beit wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or sim-ply a stroll through the vineyards – andwhen they are ready, hop on to continuethe tour. The tour takes passengers rightinto the heart of the Franschhoek Valley,with a commentary guided tour and unpar-alleled views of the valley and vineyards.
The tram seats 32 passengers on eightbenches with six of the benches having flip-over, tram-style seat backs that allow pas-sengers to enjoy the breathtaking view inboth directions.
The hop-on, hop-off tour departs from theFranschhoek Wine Tram ticket office (Bi-joux Square, 60 Huguenot Road, Fransch-hoek) and includes six stops: Grande Pro-
vence, Rickety Bridge, Dieu Donne, HauteCabrière,ChamonixandtheHuguenotMu-seum.Acommentaryguidedtour, focusingon the history of Franschhoek and winecultivation in the Valley, and a complimen-tary wine tasting are included.
The Franschhoek Wine Tram operatesdaily from 10:00 to 15:20 with departuresevery40minutes.Ticketscanbepurchasedat theFranschhoekWineTramticketofficeor online at www.winetram.co.za. In Desember het twee regters die betrokke interdik goedgekeur terwyl die derde regter nie deel gevormhet van die besluit nie. Die besluit het ook onder meer bepaal dat die WKOD alle regskostes moet betaal. Alle toerustingwat van dié skool verwyder is, is terugbesorg. ’n Teer punt oor die feestyd was egter dat weens die sluiting, gevalle van vandalismedaar plaasgevind het en ouers het self elke aand die skool bewaak. Die skool het vanjaar ’n tydelike nuwe personeelspangekry wat volstoom sal voortgaan om leerlinge te onderrig. Method:
Boil the pasta in salted water till cooked. Drain and mixes
the basil pesto into the pasta. Keep warm till required. Heat
the olive oil to medium heat and fry the onion for a minute
or two. Add the bacon and fry till crispy. Add the mushrooms
and fry for a couple of minutes. Add the grated cheddar
cheese and cream and heat through (do not cook) until the
cheese has melted. Season with salt and pepper. Add the
sauce to the drained pasta and mix. Serve with a salad on
the side.

sary of Nelson Mandela’s historicrelease fromVictorVerster Prison,now the Drakenstein CorrectionalFacility, andhiswalk to freedomaf-ter 27 years of incarceration.To commemorate his release, the
Drakenstein Correctional Servicesand the Drakenstein Municipalityare hosting the fourth 27 for Free-dom race and runners can partici-pate in the 27 km run/walk, the10 km run/walk or the FreedomRoute 5 km.On this family day of sport, histo-
ry and entertainment, participantswill walk or run along the sameroute that Madiba took as he leftprison, from the Madiba House,along the LongWalk to Freedom, to
the Madiba statue at the entranceof the correctional facility. The27 km route is scenic with sometrail sections and offers partici-pants a unique experience thatwillearn entrants their Madiba medalat the finish. The 27 km starts at06:30, 10 km at 07:00, 5 km at 09:00andthe50 mtoddlers’eventat10:00.

Porcupine race in FranschhoekTheLionsClubofFranschhoekarehosting their annual Lions/Porcu-pine Mountain Bike race this Sat-urday 2 February, starting at theBridge House School on the R45.The first race (53 km) starts at
07:00, the 26 km starts at 07:30 andthe 8,5 km race at 08:15.Registration will also take place
on Friday afternoon between 13:00and 16:00 at Bridge House Schoolin Franschhoek.
