Cortland won round one 70-61 on their home court despite 29 points from Polce and 20 points and 11 re- bounds from junior Patti Schroh (Ossining, N.Y.). The Red Dragons would next run off 24 straight wins including a 76-64 win over undefeated Cortland in the second game be- tween the two on the last day of January. Cortland narrowly defeated St. Lawrence 62- 60 to advance to the next round which would be played in Oneonta. The game was as intense as the previous three as neither team was going to let the other break away. The score went back-and-forth with nu- merous lead changes and ties in the first half with Cortland leading at the break 27-26. In the second half Cortland had a 10 point lead at two different times only to see Oneonta battle back on the shoulders of Polce. She single- handedly led a charge late in the game with nine straight points to get the game to 63-62 in favor of Cortland. Over the final two minutes Oneonta was forced to foul to stop the clock and Cortland made their free throws for a 70- 64 victory.
