There has been alot of controversy surrounding the Patriot Act in congress on whether it should be renewed or not. Some argue that the Patriot Act is unconstitutional to collect American citizens phone records, others argue that it is necessary to protect Americans from terrorist attacks. Two extremely controversial articles debate whether or not the law should be renewed are World magazines publication, "NSA snooping finds few friends on capitol hill" by Jim Henry from the May 26,2015 publication and ABC NEWS," FBI surveillance tools in jeopardy amid Patriot Act debate" by Eric Tucker from the May 27, 2015 publication. Two articles with different perspectives in which Henry focuses more on the representatives fighting to stop the renewal of the law, whereas on the other hand, Tucker states facts why the Patriot Acts and NSA should be renewed and is crucial to the FBI and American citizens. Both authors give alot of detailed facts to support their arguments and both support what’s best for the American people. The thought of having government officials spy on American citizens phone calls and emails is very uncomfortable to most people, In the article published by the World magazine, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul debates in congress on why the renewal of the Patriot Act is unconstitutional and unamerican. Senator Rand Paul states:"Americans should not sacrifice freedom for security". Which supports the idea that we shouldn't lose our freedom and allow government to spy on Americans or allow the NSA to collect phone calls. There are

    Eventhoughthereisalotofevidencethatsupportsherstatementcongresshasyettodecide

    phonecallsforcriminalinvestigationsbutthePatriotActincreasedsurveillancetocounter

    terrorism.Ifcongressdoesnotreachagreementsomeofitsmosteffectiveprovisionwill

    expireandmakeitharderforFBIagentstogatherinformationonnonUSindividuals.Tucker

    statesthatthepatriotActwashelpfulfindinga9/11conspirator,ifcongressdecidestorenew

    thelawhopefullyitwillbenefittheAmericancitizens.

    ThetwoarticlesfocusontwocrucialfactorsregardingthePatriotActandexplainingthe

    resultsofbothoutcomes.TheWorldMagazinearticlecompletelydisregardedthePatriot

    Actsillegalspying,howeveridentifiesthatthereareterroristthreatsthatneedtobestopped.

    OntheotherhandABCnewspublicationhadmoresupportivefactorsforthelawillustrating

    whyitisimportantfortherenewalandwhyFBIshouldbeallowedtoconfiscatephone

    records.Itisstilluncertainiftherenewalwillmakeusanysaferagainstenemythreatsorif

    it'sjustaninvasionofAmericansprivacybutwemustnotdenythefactthatthereare

    enemieswhoareAdangertoAmerica.
