Work Plan Amendment No 6 was prepared for Nyanza Operable Unit III Site Remedial InvestigationFeasibility Study RlFS) at the request of the us Environmental Protection Agency Region I under Contract No 68-WS-0117 work Assignment No 02-lLlS Work Plan Amendment No 6 is required to conduct additional work associated with the RI FS and the funding and LOE required to perform these tasks
20 OBJECTIVES
The overall objectives of the Nyanza Operable III RIFS are to
o Aasesa contaminants in the Sudbury River baain in the vicinity and downriver of the Nyanza Chemical Waste Dump Site in order to determine the nature and extent of contaaination in the river
o Evaluate public health and ecoloqical riaka aeeociated with obaerved contamination
0 Provide data to develop general reaponae objectivea and 0cleanup atandarda focuaing on sediment cleanup
0 Provide data to develop and evaluate reaedial alternativebull to mitigate the defined riaka The specific objective of thia aaendment ia to evaluate additional reaedial alternativebull focuaing on sediment cleanup in the Eaatern Wetland and draina9eways from the Wetland to the Sudbury River Thia amendment also provides additional LOE for taaks requiring additional work due to the inveatigation and reporting of extensive contamination in the Study Area

During the conduct of the Nyanza Operable Unit III work completion and production of extensive RI FS reports resulted in budget variances and the need for additional dollars and LOE Due to the nature of the contamination found and the extensive Study Area involved ( 35 miles of river 1 additional remedial alternatives must also be evaluated and incorporated into a revised Feasibility Study Repor t The alternatives will focus on the Eastern Wetlands and drainageway between the Site and the Sudbury River

Additional LOE h included in this amendment to complete Tasks 0900 1000 and 1100 Costa include the preparation of a Draft and a Pinal FS document
35 laok 1200 - Poot RIPS Support

At the requut of EPA a portion of the LOE originally budgeted for this task will be transferred and used to offset LOE planned in Task 1100 - FS Report Additional time will be transferred to fiscal year 1993
