Cinematography

A lot of different shot types are used in this opening. A close up shot is used of a religious cross, this allows the audience to see the religious imagery that will be used in the film. Medium shot is used to introduce the characters, this allows the audience to find out about the characters. An extreme long shot is used of the setting, this connotes where the film will be set and what’s going on in that setting.

Mise En SceneThe lighting in this opening is shown to be dark and lots of red lighting is used, this creates mysteriousness as the dark colours seem gothic. The props used in the opening are bow and arrows, this shows dangerousness that is going to be shown throughout the film. The costumes the characters are wearing connotes the medieval times which shows when the film was set and based on.

EditingThe editing in this film opening is shown to be slow pace. This allows the audience to understand the opening as it is slow. The slow pace also connotes suspense towards the audience as they want to know what’s going to come up next. There are fades used in this opening, the fading from one scene to the next creates tension.

SoundThe sound used in this opening is mysterious music, the music which is used builds tension. It seems as if something could come out any moment as the music builds up which could leave the audience fearful. Non diagetic sound is also used as we hear a narrator speaking.
