1 INTRODUCTION

The DR6000 MK2 (“Mark 2”) represents the next generation of digital COFDM receivers from BMS. Specificallyengineered for mobile requirements, the DR6000 MK2 receives wireless transmissions in both fixed and mobileapplications. Its performance and reliability have been proven in a variety of applications all over the world, and it caneasily master the most demanding applications. For many customers, the DR6000 MK2 provides the backbone oftheir systems.

The receiver’s internal decoder provides many professional features, like ASI, SDI, HD-SDI, component or compositeand analog/embedded audio outputs, all with an end-to-end, low-delay option of less than 40ms. MPEG-2 4:2:2 issupported by default and optionally the DR6000 can also be operated as single repeater with automatic setup of allCOFDM settings. Additionally, the display of the six spectrums makes the DR6000 receiver an essential tool in thewireless receiver world.

3 INSTALLATION

3.1 Connectors and Indicators

The connections to the DR6000 MK2 are described in Figure 1. A typical connection diagram is shown in Figure 1and Figure 2.

NOTE: This product may also be used with BMS control software, DENGVision. Please refer to BMS product manual,P/N 6051429010, for instructions on using this software.

NOTE: In keeping with today’s mainstream communication technology, the DR6000MK2 is equipped with IP (InternetProtocol) connectivity. This feature allows:

1. Remote control of the DR6000Mk2 over a LAN, WAN, or the Internet.

2. Streaming of live video over a LAN, WAN, or the Internet.

RS-232 is still available for customers preferring this method of remote control, rather than IP.

As with all IP devices and interfaces, the DR6000MK2 needs to be configured and set up to work on the customer’snetwork. BMS will provide all the relevant software, drivers, manuals and information on how to set up and configurethe DR6000MK2.

HOWEVER, because every network is unique and governed by a different set of rules and procedures, depending onthe entity, BMS cannot become involved in setting up the customer’s network. It is the customer’s responsibility towork with their IT department in order to secure IP addresses, allocate bandwidth, provision the network, set up theuser’s PCs and integrate the DR6000MK2 into the network. The point of demarcation between BMS and thecustomer’s network is the two RJ-45 Ethernet sockets at the rear of the DR6000MK2.

3.4 Remote Control of the DR6000MK2

Remote Control of the DR6000Mk2 can either be achieved using one of three interface methods, RS-232, RS-485 orEthernet.

If the RS-232 interface is going to be used, then connect your com cable directly to the top DB-9 connector on therear of the DR6000Mk2.

Next, go straight to the ‘Launch Deng Vision’ stage and follow the instructions.

RS-485

If the RS-485 interface is going to be used, then you will first need to prepare the dongle, shown in Figure 18, bysoldering wires to the printed circuit pads that protrude from the back of the dongle, as shown in Figure 19. Thedongle is then fixed to the top connector at the rear of the DR6000Mk2.

Figure 18. Dongle Figure 19. RS485 connection

Next, go straight to the ‘Launch DengVision’ stage and follow the instructions.

EthernetIf Ethernet is the preferred choice, then the DB-9 dongle (Figure 18, supplied with the DR6000Mk2 kit) needs to befitted to the top DB-9 connector at the rear of the DR6000Mk2.

The Ethernet connection you are about to configure, is already preconfigured with an IP address from the factory, tobe 155.155.155.98, this needs changing to match your network.

3.5 Setting up the DR6000MK2 to Stream Video to a PC

The DR6000Mk2 has a device (ASI Pro) installed which allows an ASI MPEG-2 Transport Stream to be carried overan IP network to be streamed on a PC or MPEG-2 decoder.

Please note that streaming video over an IP network requires adequate bandwidth to function properly. Thebandwidth requirement for each stream of Standard Definition Video is in the order of 10Mbps, for High Definition

Video, the bandwidth increases to 30 Mbps per stream. Also the network must be Multicast enabled and the correctports open to pass the multicast packets. Please read the ASI-Pro User Guide for further information.

In order to use the ASI over IP feature, this streaming device needs to be configured to communicate with the localnetwork. The procedure consists of seven steps.

1. Obtaining an IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway from your Network Administrator;

2. Setting your PC NIC card to communicate with the device (ASI Pro) inside the DR6000MK2;

5 TROUBLESHOOTING

The following troubleshooting tips may assist the user with setup issues:

1. The DR6000 MK2 is not working.

Switch off the power to the unit, wait 10 seconds and reapply power.

Observe the screen while the unit goes through its startup routine to ensure that all stages report “Ok”.

If every step responds “Ok”, continue to the next steps.

2. Unit does not lock on (i.e., the receiver does not demodulate the signal.) No green signal bars on main menu.

Check LO, BW, Guard (auto recommended) Invert/Normal, Spectrum frequency, BDC powered, allconnections good.

3. Unit does not lock on and spectrum does not take the typical pedestal shape, as shown:

Check that the frequency is correct, then change the LO to a different value and save. Now re-enter thecorrect LO value and re-save.

Check that signal strength is not too high. You should be able to see the whole spectrum, top, bottom andsides.

4. Unit does not lock on and no spectrum.

Check LO, BDC power, matching antennas.

5. Unit locks on but does not produce video/audio.

Check ASI Out to ASI In loop jumper is in place; Gen-lock is off if signal not supplied.

6. GPS data does not work.

Check that the correct connector is being used: bottom DB-9 is DATA OUT (GPS).

Check that GPS monitoring software is set to BMS or NMEA/matching source and header.

7. In mode A6D unit is locked but no video or audio.

Check correct PIDs for video/audio have been entered in the crypt page; they should match the transmitter’ssettings.

8. Unit locks on but does not produce video.

Check encryption is in correct mode; OFF if not being used.
